Palace fan here in peace

We are all absolutely desperate for Murray to come back, all our strikers are injured, we had to play Zaha upfront today and he was awful

Im not sure what the agreement in place is but if palace have any say I almost guarantee we will keep him, should never have let him go in the first place!

andrew1957 I am pro Murray - think he has been very good for us.

BUT - he recently recovered from a major injury and at his age he is a risk. This has the potential to be Roberts part 2 all over it. Great player crocked by injury and then sees out the next couple of years on high wages.

Bearing in mind the club's difficult financial position and that we are unlikely to go up or down (I really don't see us going down even without Murray) I don't think it is worth the risk.

Would rather we gave Samuel and Tanner more chances.

I don't get all this 'injury prone' stuff. Murray has come through some really physical games, during which he has never shirked a challenge (indeed has thrown himself into some pretty hard challenges) , unscathed. If he had surgery on his knee and it was done well, there is no reason whatsover why that knee shouldn't be as good as or better than his other knee.

From my understanding, there is no agreement in place. Palace can decide not to sell & Murray can decide to go back.

I believe we have first refusal should Palace be open to selling, but given you're in the midst of a relegation battle & have no fit strikers, most Reading fans accept that today was his last game.

Massive shame & we'll struggle without him.

He had an excellent game today and led the line superbly, however it doesn't change my opinion that he isn't what we need now. Too expensive for his age and does not offer any sort of value for the wages and fee he will cost.

Thanks

He's exactly what we need at the moment, someone who can hold the ball up and bring others into play, I suppose atleast his loan spell has helped you guys out and got him match fit for us.

I did hear rumours of £1,5m which I thought was ridiculous considering the figures top championship strikers are going for, I know he's not a 21 year old but he'd never relied on pace and is a guaranteed 20 goal a season championship player.

The only way I can see us letting him go is at the end of the window if we buy in another striker, apparanrlt weve made bids for 3 and Gomis from Swansea seemed a target but they wont let him go untill Bony comes back from AFCON

My understanding was we had a fee agreed and the signing was a formality based on us and Murray wanting it to happen, he'd still have to sign a contract, so as done as any signing that isn't complete. If Palace have no strikers, then even with their management change, I guess it's a no brainer to play in the PL and not take a pay cut.

If he's playing PL football next week it just shows how clueless the fans who don't want or rate him are IMO.

Not sure playing up front for a PL team in the bottom three with no strikers shows people as "clueless", but then you are prone to being overly dramatic.

There are reasons to sign him and those mostly seem to be pointed to a short term fix that might help us just this season and there are reasons to not sign him that are potentially of better benefit to us in the longer term.

Both clubs have had a change of manager. That can change things; I suspect it was most likely just a gentleman's agreement and nothing binding.

Yep, if we have a fee agreed then it's just down to him to accept it. Very much the opposite of what he said - "it's down to the clubs". I'm sure he's off after that interview.

I particularly enjoyed the part of that interview where Dellor was pretty much saying, "you're too shit for the PL".

So who do you think will come in and do exactly that in the next few games?

Murray will be a big loss, he's under-rated here at Reading.

I'd kind of agree with Wycombe still, and it's pretty much the point I made previously.

I think Murray has played well for us, is a good player and a good goalscorer. I'm not too worried about his injury record as I think it's just the one (serious) injury which looks to me to have cleared up.

As much as I think he's exactly the type of player we need at the moment I'd still be very cautious about signing him on a permanent deal because he's going to be 32 at the start of next season and he's likely to want at least a 2 and half year contract on decent wages to come here. That's quite a financial commitment for us for an aging player and I'm not sure we're in a position to do that right now.

He is the right player for us, just possibly at the wrong time.

Just as Adkin's was "under- rated" by the ill informed masses :D

Spot on.

He's probably cost us yet another fortune on the kind of wages that are seriously hampering our activity in the transfer market and he's 31.

He's done well here but adding a substantial fee to wages he would demand to stay, in preference to returning to his own Premiership club, would be madness.....................................but, as ever, this will be lost on the usual suspects some of whom are still climbing out of Adkin's backside.

Yesterday showed that we are more than capable of competing at this level with or without Murray. There will be other Prem striker's in need of first team football who will be available for 3 month loans in the up coming window, should our new management decide that is what is required.

It's better to fork out Prem wages on a temporary basis than spend millions on an ageing, injury prone striker who will still require a high salary and lengthy contract to sign on the dotted line.

Assuming this is "Goodbye" thanks, Glenn, hope it all goes well back at Palace.

Cannot understand how anyone could claim that yesterday showed how we can compete with or without Murray. He was pivotal to the three points won yesterday, just as he has made a major contribution to many of the other points that we have picked up this season.

What's more this is 'The Reading Way' we are talking about again. So you can pretty much guarantee that when we don't secure Murray we will also fail to sign an adequate replacement, despite the claims that plenty will be available.

Yeah it's fair to say Murray has contributed to many of our points this season and was key yesterday. It's difficult to presume we would have won with Nick Blackman trying to play that role yesterday.

Most of our current problems stem from the fact that the spectacularly successful "Reading Way" was ditched by the Russian twat playing with his pocket money (JM's fault, I concede)

Spending a fortune on Murray would serve only to delay the day we finally get back to doing what we do best.

We beat promotion contenders, totally outplaying them with nearly all the side putting in 7/8 out of 10 performances and this, apparently, means we can't survive without an ageing, over priced striker :|

Adkins has gone but these pages are still being filled with the usual bollox from his desciples

WR, you do realise that Murray played a significant part in that victory don't you?

Replace Murray with Blackman, which is probably what will happen against Huddersfield if Murray doesn't stay, and how do you think it will effect the ability of the side to all put in 7 or 8 out of 10 performances?

I think yesterday showed that this is a decent squad for this level and we have a month to decide whether Murray needs to be replaced.

I doubt Blackman will be the answer but, frankly, what makes his recent misses so much worse than Murrays?

I wouldn't rule out a tilt at the play offs so, getting a decent loan for the rest of the season would be nice but we still have Cox plus Pog on the way back and, who knows, Guthrie in the hole yesterday could be a masterstroke in the making.

All of which means Murray leaving is unlikely to leave us seriously in the lurch.
