tidus_mi2 I hope this all goes through because the anger and frustration that will follow another takeover collapse, especially one that seems so promising will be seismic.

A very small part of me wants it to fail as the head-loss would be legendary.

Which is precisely why I think this time it’s the real deal. There is no way the club would have put out the comms it did unless they were absolutely certain this was the one.

Snowflake Royal How many times do we have to go through this? You're here more than enough to have seen it multiple times.

We can negotiate contracts, we can sign players.... up to a limit of twenty whatever with a professional appearance.

But hasn’t it also been established that we will have that number still signed on over the summer ? That’s a question, but I thought someone had worked out we had a huge number of players with at least 1 first team appearance and who were not OOC this summer.

No, because we don’t know what the youth contracts are and we only have about 5 senior players contracted beyond that.

The club is embargoed. They can talk all they want to players now and let them know the situation and that they’re still wanted or not but cannot actually offer contract extensions to anyone until the embargo is lifted, or the FL relent a little over the summer due to their own competivity requirements. The issue now is that some players will have other clubs in their ears and so may not want to hang about waiting for the FL to relent or the embargo to be lifted.

Under FL rules a club can have 23 professionals (a professional is classed as a player who has made at least 1 competitive appearance for a PL/FL club).

Not sure on Reading being allowed to replace Bouzanis given that the club must have 23 players of professional standing still. However the club says they have a “green light” on it and have spoken about 5 or 6 players but seems like they are waiting for injury to dictate where they go with it

The Embargoes FAQ here:

https://www.efl.com/governance/embargoes/

Says:

How is the number of players these Clubs can acquire managed?

If the Club has 24 or more Established Players they can only sign new players on a one in one out basis, though this will be dependent upon the circumstances of the individual Club and will be determined by the League.

And:

Can Clubs offer new contracts to players whilst under Embargo?

Yes, Clubs can offer new contracts to existing players, though this will be dependent upon the circumstances of the individual Club and will be determined by the League.

Maybe. However, when it comes to comms under Dai's regime, I'm not sure the intelligent/sensible people at the club get a proper say as to when and what goes out!

Someone better tell the club then. The club (Noel to be precise) has said they’ve talked to some players and told them where they stand and what they want to do as regards contract extensions but can do nothing until the “embargo hurdle” is lifted.

Would suggest the club know where they stand given they’re in ongoing conversations with the FL over all the stuff going on. Of course if Mr Platek pulls it off by April then it shouldn’t matter anyway.

Ignore Ian - he's a tedious know it all, who likes belittling people in order to boost his rather odd self esteem. Which is irony in itself.

But then you all know this.

The regulations do say "this will be dependent upon the circumstances of the individual Club and will be determined by the League". So it can simultaneously be true that clubs under embargo are generally allowed to extend contracts, and also true that the League have decided our specific circumstances make it inappropriate for us to extend contracts.

Equally, Hunt could be being diplomatic. We could be in a situation where, for instance, a player like Craig says "I want a pay rise that reflects that I'm now a senior player". Maybe, and this is just speculation, the EFL are happy for us to extend contracts, but not to offer improved terms, and players aren't prepared to sign extensions without improved terms.

It's not hard to work out that you can't just take whatever club staff say to the media off the cuff at face value. It's not even Hunt's job to deal with contracts.

What are the facts.

The rules allow contract extensions
The FL have already allowed us to make signings beyond the embargo restrictions.

So continually asserting we aren't going to be able to sign anyone or extend any contracts on no factual basis just to spread yet more doom can oxf*rd off. As can leon, back to AE if he's got nothing of value to add as usual.

I think Noel said something along the lines of, We have talked about who we want to keep among our selves. That could mean the discussion has been with other coaches etc., not that the players have been involved in the discussions.

Surely it's pretty clear the biggest blocker to contract negotiations is the current ownership situation, and worries about income vs expenditure.

How we fund the contracts we want to offer.

Not embargos.

The idea that it’s not part of Hunt’s job to be involved in player contracts is an interesting one. He obviously thinks it is !
It’s also interesting that people have to be so certain about stuff they don’t know anything much about, and get obnoxious when others don’t submit to their view.

We all try and piece together the jigsaw but we don’t have the lid with the picture and we don’t have all the pieces…..

Can we cut out the petty bickering on points that will be resolved if/when the takeover happens?

It's a bit tedious seeing a new post, hoping it's some new insight into what's happening, only to find it's Ian and Sutekh prolonging a bitch fight.
