Notts Royal Well I, for one, would feel a lot more confident of our survival if we had a fit Meite…and Ince plays him on the right.
I’d also feel less confident of survival if Rahman was fit and reinstated to the side. NGW is limited but can attack. Rahman can neither defend nor attack

YorkshireRoyal99 Would rather have experienced players in the squad than not, would probably rather have Rahman playing than NGW to be honest.

Our squad has been full of experienced players all season and we’ve struggled, hasn’t been enough energy and dynamism in the side so not sure how bringing in Rahman particularly helps with that
Do think there’s something there with NGW but he’s still a fair way off being good enough to start week in and week out and I don’t see how he can make the appropriate progress under Ince anyway

But yeah not really sure how Baba helps us in any way as he has been crap in a back 4 as well this year

He’s only played there once this season! Away at Watford which, coincidentally, was one of his better games
In fact he’s only started 13 league games all season. As ineffective as he’s been, he hasn’t played much really

YorkshireRoyal99 It's one of those, if we need a bit more defensive solidarity down our left, Baba is clearly a better option whereas if we want a more offensive option then NGW is the better player to have in that area whether that's as a wing back or full back.
Same/similar positions, but different qualities. Baba may have been better against the likes of Millwall or Sheff United where we may have wanted a bit more quality defensively, whereas NGW or possibly even Azeez would do better against sides where we need a bigger threat going forward.

Only started there once this seaosn. We’ve switched to a back 4 in games at times with him in it
But tbf I should rephrase to playing full back. We’ve definitely played a back 5 rather than a back 3 with him in it (utd away, Sunderland away etc)

Yep, we've struggled but we were always going to struggle. The fact we've still got our heads above water with what we've had to play with is a success within itself.
I don't think Rahman helps with energy or dynamism, but I do believe putting better quality players in your side ultimately gives you better chances of success. With a limited squad in terms of quality, I wouldn't want us putting worse players in the side just because some fans like him.

Granted but the same problem still arises for Rahman in a flat back five or with higher wing backs. In the set up Ince plays, you look up as a WB, you have four CB’s around you (pass backwards), or an aimless hoof to Carroll. You have the occasional option of passing to someone like Hendrick but then he’s faced with the same problem of having no options, particularly as Ince (our most mobile player) spends most the game drifting over to the right
It begs the question, what do you actually expect these players to do? Rahman isn’t going to be direct and have a foray forward so he’s left with the aforementioned options. NGW is more direct but even then, he seems to have lost his attacking spark he demonstrated at the start of the season. Ditto Hoilett. The goal contributions from our wingbacks has been paltry. I’ve never quite understood the overall clamour for the formation and aside from maybe prime Obita and McCleary, we haven’t really had anyone specialised to do that role in recent years
Blackpool and Blackburn were an evident improvement in recent weeks as there were actually options moving forward and we could use the width better with two players on each side. Yet Ince reverted to a back five against Hull - made very little sense!

You need to take a look at the likes of Luton and Millwall.
Experience =/= good
Team fit is far more important.
NGW is far superior to Rahman. The recent two goals he's had some culpability in weren't even really his fault.

Snowflake Royal What about Hutch and Rahman?
We were in danger of the Chelsea failure getting selected for no reason again, I thought.
