smurfsdabomb I've watched him play for carlisle last season, he was muck for a few seasons before that but got his form and fitness back in a big way and was electric last year getting on the leagues team of the season to boot. Easily one of the best set piece specialists in the world and not as slow as people say, I rate him very highly. Think its an astute signing.
Don't forget this guy was once the best left back in the premiership and a world cup starter, he's 33 not 37 and form is temporary class is permanent.

well said.

The first thing McD did pretty much when he took over was to shore up a flakey and inexperienced defence. He's doing the same again. Getting Harte on board is a cheap, low-risk option. If he does nothing except give us more defensive options then that's enough. If he ends up playing more than 20 games a season and scoring a few goals I think that's a damn good investment.

Everybody's hung up on this 6M in, 50k out thing. Think of it in isolation to Gylfi leaving and it makes sense.

Good signing imo, shows the club have realised after only 6 games that williams is shit and we need someone who can come straight in and do a job. Plus he is awesome at free kicks

Seems strange seeing people calling for a 20 goal a season striker and then hearing that we've signed an 18 goal a season defender

Great cover and experience, plus much needed goals and free kicks. With zurab our defence looks good even if ivar is injured till xmas. Thats our most obvious deficiencies sorted in short order. Nice 1 brian. I expect a striker-fryat on loan too but that may just be my eternal optimism. If we do that i think we could maybe have made up for the points gylfi gets us.plus ensured the black hole is filled for maybe two seasons. For those of you demanding jm gives a couple of mill away. He isnt doing that any more. Get over it.

I personally think this is a great signing.

Not many left backs in our price range out there at the moment

The guy obviously still has the hunger and desire - he showed that last season

Our current left back slot is a bit iffy - having some serious competition will only help Williams and realise he has to step up

I actually think this is a very good signing considering the circumstances.

What we need now is bollox and apparently Harte is leader and a top bloke. The fact he's dropped down to Carlise and done a great job says a lot imo. He could have just gone there and fcuked it off really.

A back 4 of Griff Kish Mills Harte will keep us up.

What hurts is that the squad we had at the end of last season plus a couple of additions could have made a push for promotion. But as Brendy says we have to get over. We have to support the lads and get behind the club 100%, whatever we think about the direction JM is taking us.

As gutting as it is, everyone needs to take jm out of our financial equation. Our wages are now manageable.our squad is covered.and with undoubted quality in the main areas of the pitch. And we can moan all we like, but we may just have to rely on taylor, and the other kids to provide the incoming quality.
And people should wait till the accounts come out before accusing jm of theft,or of destroying the club.and wait to see how we do till jan, before insisting we are doomed.

I am sure the Ego will state what a great signing Harte is for Reading in the press conference and that this underlines the ambition the club have to return to the Premier league!!!! All Oxford really.

Main problem for me is the only player McD has brought in is Williams and has replaced him with a month of the season, does not look good for his scouting skills.

Either that or Williams has a more serious problem than first thought

OK Griffin aswell, but was that all ready in the offing before McD got the job, in any case he signs Williams and within a month is replacing him, he either doesn't rate him any more/needs extra cover or Williams injury is worse than first feared.
