Something along the lines of "I've not seen him play in the flesh" ...

I can't remember who it was.

But he does look like Patrick Vieira. Honest.

Nah, don't think I said anything like that about Cisse. Feel free to prove me wrong.

super darren caskey It looks like evers is the most popular choice for dissappointment here

did anyone expect him to be good though? Had anyone even heard of him before he signed?

I'd pick Steve Moran, because he was the first "famous" player Reading signed to my knowledge, and also because I was still young a naive, and didn't realise he joined us because he'd become crap after being a star for Southampton a few years before.

brizzle royal Maurice Cook. Oh the ambition back in the old days !

Good player Maurice Cook. Played alongside Rodney Marsh.

Surprising that Baz Savage doesn`t feature here.

Cant have played much alongside Marsh as Marsh hardly played for Fulham and when Maurice came to Reading he was at the end of his career and hardly played for us

That reminds me of Paul Canoville...

It was way back when, but when he joined he was class, real class.
He shone out as someone who played at a higher level.
Left racist Chelsea and was kinda famous when he joined us.

All was well until Swindlehurst mullered him away against Sunderland.

That was disappointing.

Why?

"Most disappointing" by definition means someone who arrived with great expectations - I'm not sure anyone ever expected anything other than comedy moments from Bas, and he provided plenty of those.

Most disappointing for me: Byron Glasgow. Showed shedloads of talent and ability, finally broke into the team in 98/99 and then sniffed and smoked it all away.

Honourable mentions for Craig Maskell, Andy McLaren, Sean Evers, Alex Smith, and in a slightly bizarre twist, Jamie Cureton. Now I'm probably going to be slated for that, but his record in Division 2 never really translated into Division 1 for us bar a good start with 4 in 6. Then Forster took control after 4-4-2 turned to 4-4-1-1 and Cureton never really had a look in from then on.

Thinking about it if I had to narrow it to one would probably be Craig Maskell.

Cost us a fortune following it going to the football league tribunal to decide the transfer fee and nearly bankrupted the club.

In addition was a lazy git who had talent but never applied himself for RFC.

Sean Goater and even though he was injured a fair bit, Robert Fleck, absolute garbage.

If you can't spell his name right... your opinion doesn't count. Top goalscorer in his first season with a decent haul =/= contender for most disappointing player in our history given the likes of Fae, Halford, Mikhailov, Evers & Sarr.

Its got to far an away be Greg Halford, surely.

Something like 3m pounds, a record signing. Only played a handful of games and was a rubbish coke junky.

Mitigated by selling him at a profit (fair play Hammond)

Mass Sarr, together with the most disappointing manager in Reading history: Tommy Burns.

Sir Les
I thought that he and Keown would change the side dramatically and Sir Les in particular was a massive let down - turned out he was well past his sell by date

Andy Hughes

Set himself very low standards which he repeatedly failed to live up to.

Sorry Shaun not Sean, i spelt his name wrong as i really could not remember it off the top of my head as his contribution to the royals was so insignificant considering the big reputation he bought with him from Man City.

I remember there was some Viera talk at the time, might have been paper talk though
