From bbcsport_david on Twitter: "West Ham want Shane Long but Reading director of football Nick Hammond tells me 'no deals of any consequence today, just a few kids coming in'."

I don't want to bite, but...
He's worth as much as Doyle isn't he?

Ian Royal
Doyle was proven in the Premier League and had 15+ goals in two Champ seasons. Long has managed none of that (yet). Very promising, but I would be surprised if he went for much more than half Doyle's fee even at seasons end with a goal tally of 18+

Jimbo To be fair, IR was pointing out that WHEN DOYLE WAS SOLD he was a proven Prem goal scorer, Long isn't. However, Doyle's stats since being sold are obviously not too bright.

Mr Angry If the fans had a choice of voting to have one of either Shane Long or Kevin Doyle at RFC as they are now as players (eg: not "when Doyle was playing in 2006"), I wonder how many people would choose Shane Long?
(And yes, I know thats NOT going to happen ever, its just hypothetical!)

Indeed - it assumes that just one measure (goals) are all that counts, wheras Mick McCarthy has been singing the praises of Doyle all season for the way he holds the ball up and keeps possession whilst others join the attack.
But as that can't be measured in numbers it doesn't count.
