Skin so what was the team submitted!!???

Not sure this was answered so...

Steve Death

Graeme Murty
Ady Williams
Martin Hicks
Nicky Shorey

Glen Little
Phil Parkinson
Steve Sidwell
Michael Gilkes

Robin Friday
Trevor Senior

Manager: Steve Coppell

Other teams including ex-Reading players, including comments from the contributors:
Burnley (Glen Little) - 'The tricky winger often mesmerised fans with his ability to beat a man and put a ball into the box, but he also scored some great solo goals.
Cardiff (Andy Legg) - Bravely recovered from cancer to lead the club to two promotions in 1999 and 2003. Had a knack for scoring spectacular goals.
Millwall (Steve Wood) - A mainstay of the 1987-88 Second Division Championship and the dream tam of top-flight football the next season. A commanding and unflappable central defender.
Millwall (Terry Hurlock) - Despite only playing for the Lions for three years in the late 80s, no other player epitomises Millwall more than 'The Warlock'. Tough but could play the ball with delicacy. Born fully formed from the belly of Odin.
Portsmouth (Linvoy Primus) - There have been more talented defenders but 'Sir Linvoy' was the archetypal fans' player - no airs, no graces, 100% commitment.
Brentford (Jay Tabb) - Started his career at Griffin Park after being rejected by Palace, Tabb had a superb six years.
Brentford (Terry Hurlock) - One of the hardest footballers ever - even Neil Ruddock described him as an animal! He could also play a bit and was called up for the England B team in the '80s.
Walsall (Adrian Viveash) - Bescot's finest: a tough, no-nonsense centre-back who could play himself out of trouble and chipped in with some vital headed goals from set-pieces.
Aldershot (Scott Davies) - Although only on loan at the club, he made a huge impact. Best remembered for some superb goals, especially that 94th minute strike against Torquay in 2008.
Barnet (Gary Phillips) - Long-serving goalkeeper who was part of our 1991 Conference-winning side. Later went on to manage the club and also work as a goalkeeping coach.
Barnet (Linvoy Primus) - Linvoy excelled at Barnet as a youngster during the mid-1990s, going on to do very well at a higher level with Reading and Portsmouth.
Northampton Town (Trevor Morley) - Another legend from '86-'87. Despite his dodgy '80s barnet and Tom Selleck tache, he was great for us.
Wycombe Wanderers (Nathan Tyson) - A young and enthusiastic striker, Tyson ran his heart out for the club from his debut to his final game. Made just 78 league appearances for Wycombe, but a 42-goal stint gets him a start in the Perfect XI.

I thought other teams nominations made interesting reading. No place for Hurlock or Primus in our nomination. No place in the Reading squad for Davies. Thoughts?

Interesting. Davies had so much promise but doesn't appear to have had the quality / attitude to make it here despite his good form elsewhere. I think there was a rumour on here that his attitude to training wasn't great.

Primus was a great player here, but a little prone to dodgy back passes to really compete with the likes of Ivar, Wdowczyk, Upson, Sonko, Williams, Bikey & co. We definitely missed his best years. Well done on Pompey for taking the punt.

That's a decent team for us, not surprised to see Hicks I guess, though the fact that Wdowczyk and Ivar miss out is criminal. Kitson, Quinn and Doyle also extremely unlucky to miss out upfront.

Give it another 10+ years and I think you'll see Hicks & Williams slip out. I wouldn't be surprised if McAnuff stays for a few more seasons to see him overtake Gilkes either.

Don't forget that Aldershot have so little history and it's all at such a low level that it's not *that* much of an achievement to be in their team.

He's loved and revered at Pompey - for his attitude and the many, many things he's done in the local community. He's loved in a similar that Parky is idolised here - and in teh same wy people probably remember him as being better than he actually was!

Sentiment obviously played a huge part in selecting that final 11. Senior and Hicks would probably make a team of my favourite players but there's no way they'd make the best 11. Likewise, Parky always appears in these 'best ever' teams but as good as he was Micky Gooding was undoubtedly better.
