its hard enough trying to keep things on topic as is, without menopausal women trying to hi jack threads talking about which football player they would most like to do.

I have no idea if you're serious, WR, but I don't think I've started menopausing yet.

You can call women almost anything you like on here, but that they just won't stand for.

WoodleyRoyal He picks some weird battles, does he expect Reading fans to be confident we will beat Everton in there own back yard, after the season we have had?

Face it Mills is an northen thug and i am embarrassed to see a player of his mentallity pull on a Reading Shirt let alone put the captains armband on

Under rated defender and captain versus retards like you.................................that's a tough one.

I dont think Mills has said anything out of order, anyone who watches Reading week in, week out and reads this board will know just how negative the 'fans' are. The atmoshpere at the ground is almost non existent at times. Some of the so called 'fans' are quick to jump in and have a go at players. Look at the abuse Long suffered - now he is the best thing since sliced bread, until his form maybe dips and then God help him. Get off the players' back, give them support not s@*t .

Fans have a different perspective from players. They can be negative but also support the team wholeheartedly; whereas a player cannot afford a grain of negativity to enter his thoughts. The fans hope we can win; the players believe we can win. Not everyone in either group understands this difference.

I expect it is true of all fans, but I've been struck by the negativity, cynicism, and gallows humour among Reading fans ever since I was a child. My dad was a terrible pessimist, who thought we would always cock things up. Nevertheless, my favourite memory of him is him jumping up and down with euphoria every time we scored. I think fans have to be slightly negative in order to cope with all the disappointments they are constantly subjected to; but they desperately want their negativity to be proved wrong.

has long stuck his finger up to the fans?
has long been sent off for stupid rash challenges?
has long abused young players in only thier second game?
Does long get in refs faces shouting at them while on yellow cards?
Does Long come out tell fans to be lest nagative when there is nothing to be positive about?
Is long Captain?
Does Mills act like a captain?
Did Long cost two million?
Does Long act like a spoilt brat?

southbank1871 To summarise:

Mills is a bit of a dick, Reading fans on the whole are dicks.

I'd agree with you except that it seems like the most negative posters on here like to wallow in their negativity and pessimism and disappear when we do well... maybe they're out celebrating?

I think Mills is a victim of his own era.
I read so much these days about being positive especially in sport as if they cannot perform unless people tell them how brilliant they are-children supposedly need constant praise.
Coppell developed a team where players were expected to think for themselves and take personal responsibility on the pitch-Mills strikes me as one who likes to blame others rather than look at himself first.
There was the incident at Palace last week with the keeper, there was a similar incident with Cummings last year and of course there was the finger to the crowd.

This team of ours strikes me as being mentally weak (a further example was Shane Long earlier in the season)where everybody likes to blame everybody else (Harte is another such example)and Mills has already made an excuse of the fans being negative just in case he and his mates don't perform well tonight.
I'm surprised that the club has forked out for an expensive hotel in these austere times and hope that Mills and the boys will repay the club's generosity in making them feel good by doing the business tonight.
If they fail it will no doubt be the fault of somebody else.

BTW I don't think that Mills is much different than most footballers-hopefully he can be positive without relying on the fans too much.
It's a job Millsy, one that pays quite well and where you have about 2 months' holiday per year so just get on with it and stop worrying about whether the fans like you or are in any way negative, they are not on the pitch with you so have some personal pride man and do your best for the team and yourself.

I hope for his sake that Matt Mills never plays in the PL or he will learn what fan negativity really is all about.

One defeat and most PL fans are demanding the manager's and player's heads on a plate - just look at 606 if you don't believe me.

On the whole I think RFC fans are quite tolerant. Yes the tone on here can be negative at times but often for different reasons. I have a major gripe about the club selling Gylfi but I try not to gripe about individual players - as I genuinely believe that RFC players tend to give 100% - as that is the ethos of the club.

As for tonight I cannot say that I am brimming with confidence after the disappointing season that it has undoubtedly been - BUT I hope RFC will win and I will be shouting them on all the way. That was exactly how I felt before the Liverpool game last season and I am sure that all genuine RFC fans will be over the moon if we do repeat the win or even get a draw tonight.

I'm not having a dig at Long here, because I've been one of the very few to sing his praises over the last few years, and even said I wouldn't necessarily think that accepting a bid of £3million for him would be good business last season which was met by almost widespread disagreement.

However, you have a short memory. Long has had a couple of silly sendings off in his time here, including a stupid one at Derby last season which arguably cost us points. He also threw his shirt at Steve Coppell after being subbed at Liverpool which isn't exactly an endearing gesture, is it?

Are you as pathetic in real life as you are on here?

And I've been watching Reading for 30 years - and if I want to make a comment on a player - I bloody well will.
