No more friendlies between the two clubs for the foreseeable future because of previous rucks.

All this want for renewals of old rivalries is all arse water.. Football is a different beast and let's face it, for 99.99% of modern reading fans, creating an atmosphere is a challenge let alone an old school 'firm' battle!

Hate Aldershot after having a couple of run ins with them, follwed by Oxford. Not bothered about Swindon.

Would love a 3rd round trip to the Rec but doubt they'll make it that far.

Barney If you look through Aldersh!te's history, you will see that every season we played us that was their highest crowd of the season.

...slightly taking up the 'pendant's' mantle - I wos actually (for shame) at the 'original Sh!ts' record attendance :

19,138: vs Carlisle United, FA Cup Fourth Round Replay, 28 January 1970

thanks Wiki 8)

...sat on my brother's mate's shoulders for much of it - right up in one corner - could barely see the whole pitch - probably amongst the away fans - 'cos I think he was a Geordie/Cumbrian-cross (from Nuneaton? ) - not sure why it was such a big crowd - Carlisle were still a year or three away from their only spell in the old First Division then and doubtless the Sh!ts had virtually got a series of byes to get that far - I know they'd won at Margate in the first round ?

You could say that sums up their historic levels of success; to have a relatively small club from so far away, provide their record attendance?

... ironically Carlisle's league status was (temporarily) preserved in '92 by the Sh!ts going bust - lasted another 12 years as 'bottom feeders' themselves before finally dropping down to Non-League .

The new club's record crowd @ the Rec. is approx 7000 also for an FA Cup tie vs Brighton in 2000.

Once (in a former life) had a managerial post which included supervising a small IT team in the town - was offered an office of my own in the exchange overlooking the Rec - insisted they find me one on the other side of the building rather than have to suffer seeing that pile of &^%$ all day!

Aldershot is a dump of a town. I've had the displeasure of attending a few courses there over the years. The last being in January this year and it really is a ghost town. The vast majority of the shops are either empty or 99p stores. Saying that i've never had any problems walking around in a Reading shirt. The only problems i had was with a civvy camp guard who was a dieheard shots fan. He would constantly try his hardest to get me jailed for being a Royal. Seeing him reduced to tears thanks to a certain Jimmy Quinn and Scott Howie really was a beautiful moment. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/3713971.stm 8)

Ian Royal Dislike Swindon the most, bit of a soft spot for Oxford. Aldershot are more like an unimportant joke than a rival to me.

I could....soft spot for oxford? What?

We played them twice in quick succession in the league cup in the naughties and it kicked off both times and was pretty hostile. Soft spot....
I can assure you thats not felt by 99% of either fanbase and definitely not by any who attended both those games.

Surprised the 1978 or so Wealdstone away game has not been mentioned ( it often is  ). Aldershot's A company went to that Cup game just to get us. Despite a few scares, there was no trouble.

For my generation, it is definitely Aldershot. Apparently it was Swindon until the 60s when Oxford arrived and climbed the divisions with Swindon, whilst we went backwards.

In terms of mutual dislike, I'd say we are no.2 for Oxford, and vice versa. Swindon has dropped away.

Agreed re. AFCB, they dislike us most, no idea why.

I read last year that we feature high up on the dislikes of Wolves and BHA. I for one cannot stand the latter.

Yes, I was at the Wealdstone game (fu ck George Duck and his thrice-taken pen) and I remember some trouble outside going back to the coaches.

I went to one of them. Owusu and Goater scorers iirc. Was fine, fans (not sure which team) on the bus infront of us broke a window I think.

In my case it's because my Brother went to Uni there before I really got into football and I quite liked the place on the odd visit I made. And I quite like their kit.
