Extended-Phenotype and the club needs to do what it can to keep it's top stars and push up the table.

If that's what the club are interested in. We certainly don't act that way.

With their financial constraints.

Within the footballing world we are admired and seen as the financial business model to follow. We are also regarded as a club that buy players on the cheap, develops them, makes them better players, and then sells them on for a large profit. Other clubs want our players because of the success we have had improving players and also, contrary to belief on here, Nicky Hammond is regarded as one of the most astute DOF's around.

And that isn't me spouting all that, that comes from someone from within the game who does not support Reading.

we do that already EP
thats why our wage bill is higher than we can afford.

what we definitely cannot afford to do is pay an inconsistent player who has professed a wish to leave more than he deserves for longer than we should.

so jimmys choice is- get what you want but for a years extension, and prove you deserve it long term or
get less money, but for the long term deal you supposedly want

seems utterly sensible to me

The club are never going to pay Kebe what he thinks he's worth (£25k a week alegedly) but you can't blame him for trying as he may see this as his last big contract. He is nearly 28 now so a 3 year deal will take him into his thirties and sooner or later that yard of pace will dessert him and Jimmy without pace is not a valuable commodity.

Unlike what we may see with Jobi, Kebe is not going to prolong his playing days by moving to a central playmaking role.
