Royal Prince Would you leave a rock concert before the band played their big hits in the encore just to beat the queue at the train station?

In fairness I regularly had to leave gigs early when I was a student in Canterbury, travelling up to gigs in London, because the last train left London at 11pm, so I would normally have to leave about 15 minutes before the end of the gig and miss the encore :(

But seeing 45 minutes of my favourite bands' sets was better than nothing.

Whilst I generally feel that there is no excuse for leaving football early (the last train scenario obviously doesn't apply at 5pm on a saturday), I accept that some people may have genuine reasons for leaving early.

And the genuine reason is that they were bus drivers, as stated earliere. They just get to watch part of the match, which is better than sitting in the bus.

Do we really need 5 pages of discussion on this?

If you actually read the thread, you'd realise that we are discussing people leaving in general.

Or are you saying the hundreds of people that leave 10 minutes early are all bus drivers? :|

Maybe "bus drivers" is a euphemism, like "melon farmers"?

MmmMonsterMunch Well in that case other WR....I apologise for that comment.

Reasonably impressed with being close enough seeing as I didn't post on here then.

I always remembered that thread because it was hilarious.

Anyway - I think Ian Royal summed it up perfectly. People leaving are the idiots that miss out. Not much I can add.

No worries.

And as for that last point I just think it's a bit simplistic to say that anyone who leaves early is an idiot. Many of those who leave early do have a valid reason for doing so, and I don't think we can criticise anyone for any decision unless we know the circumstances of that decision.

Having been stuck in the car park for an hour once, on one of the rare times I've used it, I can well imagine it's not an experience you'd want to repeat every game.

For people who park elsewhere, and maybe get home 10 minutes earlier, it does seem a bit of a waste though.

This thread is about the people seen on TV leaving early. No real need to confuse these people with others whom leave a football match early if their team is losing 4-0.

It actually isn't about the people on TV. From my own personal experience sitting in Y25 I see many people flocking for the exits before we've even got to 85-90 mins let alone added on time.

Whilst some may have a valid reason for leaving, a lot of them are ultimately just trying to beat the traffic. If your main concern when attending a footy match is getting back to your car/bus quicker than others, then quite frankly why the hell are you there?!!

I also feel if the team has played well and various players come over to the fans at the final whistle to applaud us / say thank you whatever, then it might be quite nice for us to replicate that.

Sorry for expressing my opinion!

TBH if people want to waste ten minutes a game of entertainment that they've paid for I'm not bothered.

What gets on my tits is people in the middle of a row who head for the concourse well before half time, pour as much beer down their necks as possible, then spend the second half having to go out for a piss every five minutes.

Or people who leave then stand at the exit blocking the view of others, if you want to leave, LEAVE!

Maybe if they got to the game half an hour earlier, they could get a decent parking space near the front that would allow them to get out quicker.

I've parked in the stadium car park for the last 3 years and usually always get one of the 6 or so spaces that are actually outside of the carpark where the buses park.

As soon as the buses go we get straight out.

20 minutes from stadium to Lowers every time.

Guy who sits next to me always leaves about 10 or 15 minutes before the end, as he has his grandson with him. I don't begrudge him it - he makes it easier for me to leave after the whistle as there are fewer people between me and the exit.

I also hate this. We sometimes slow walk down during added time but I never leave like 5-10 minutes before the end.

It's worse when people do it at away matches, when there's usually at least a 2 hour journey anyway.

Absolute LOL at anyone who presumes to tell other people when they should and shouldn't leave an event they've paid to attend.

Arrive when you want. Leave when you want.

All this "loyal supporters stay to the final whistle" bullshit is embarrassing. Give yourselves a biscuit, now fook off.
