Originally Predicted (10 games to go)

28 -14 28 Southampton
28 -13 28 Newcastle
28 -16 25 Reading
28 -22 22 Wigan
28 -34 20 Villa
28 -24 19 QPR

Looks like Newcastle will go on a very decent run now.
They were quality against Chelsea and their signings look great value.

Looks, too, like Saints have a good new manager and they are playing a lot better than their results suggest

I think they will at least draw at the MadStad, probably beat us

Current

25 -15 28 Norwich
25 -11 27 Newcastle
25 -11 24 Saints

25 -14 23 Reading
25 -18 21 Wigan
25 -26 21 Villa
25 -19 17 QPR

QPR are getting better and better. If they start winning we are in trouble!

I don't think a win against any of the current bottom 3 is shoe-in and they are all very losable. That just must not happen!!

If we can beat Southampton, Wigan, Villa and QPR then I think we'll stay up.

If QPR lose away at Swansea next week (very possible) they will need nearly 2 points a game which is top 2 form - cannot see it happening

Well, YEAH, but if one of those plays half-decently, averaging, say, 1.2 ppg PLUS beating us
at the MadStad, then we could finish in the bottom three, oh, so easily.

IMO we have to beat at least two of these and draw with the other two.

A defeat by any of the sides below us is really serious.

QPR have a lot of quality and could easily go on a run.

They have a very good manager. We are so lucky they missed that penalty yesterday.

Of the bottom sides, they are the one I could see winning a few on the trot. If that first win comes soon
I seriously think they could do a WBA-style Great Escape.

It's getting tougher and tougher for them, of course, and I hope they DLDLDL their next six
and go broke, but they seriously worry me.

This thread is utter crap!

Stick to the 10 game countdown. Far simpler yet more effective.

If you set the safety target at 38 points, which would normally be enough then we need 15 points from 13 games. As was said above 4 home wins against the rest of the current bottom 5 would just about guarantee it.

13 games to go and in theory 17 points needed, 5 against so called big sides, arguably that leaves 8 games to get the required points, all the bottom sides play the big sides, its just a case of who can take points off them,

Nearly 1 point per game (win at stoke and we will be) - that is the usual benchmark for staying up. 2 PPG is the usual benchmark for winning the league.

QPR don't worry me at all - their best player yesterday was their goalie (again) - they are setting themselves up not to lose games which is nowhere near enough in their position - particularly at home to mid table sides.

If you look at their remaining fixtures they have a particularly difficult last few games. Their last 6 games are Everton A, Stoke H, us A, Arsenal H, Newcastle H, Liverpool A

Do you not get points for beating big sides?

I cba checking and maybe others could fill in the details but off the top of my head

Reading have taken 4 points of 'top' clubs - beat Everton, drew against Chelsea
QPR - 4 points (draws City, Everton, Spurs, Chelsea)
Villa - 4 point (draw Everton - not sure if Liverpool are a big club but that would make it 4 points*)
Wigan - 1 point (draw Everton)

Qpr have taken a quarter of their points against big clubs. Reading about one/sixth

* I'm including them 'cos it fits my argument

I looked at the next 6 games (7 for Southampton)
and guesstimated the results (where we'd be with ten games to go)

28 -14 28 Predicted . . . -12 27 Actual GD wrong by 2 Goals, Points 1 out Southampton
28 -13 28 Predicted . . . -11 30 Actual GD wrong by 2 Goals, Points 2 out Newcastle
28 -16 25 Predicted . . . -20 23 Actual GD wrong by 4 Goals, Points 2 out Reading
28 -22 22 Predicted . . . -22 24 Actual GD wrong by 0 Goals, Points 2 out Wigan
28 -34 20 Predicted . . . -27 24 Actual GD wrong by 3 Goals, Points 4 out Villa
28 -24 19 Predicted . . . -23 20 Actual GD wrong by 1 Goals, Points 1 out QPR

Villa were 4 points too high, 3 being the result of winning at the Mad!!
Wigan 2 points too high, again because they beat us
