HRK needs to play on the left wing - when he cuts inside he looks lost. He is better when he is beating a man and putting a cross in

SCIAG The ability of baseball players can vary by about 20% from season to season.

Performance or statistical contribution perhaps, but not really ability surely?

Ability is relatively fixed, it can be developed of course but it's more how you make use of and maximise that abiilty that causes changes performance IMO.

I agree with the rest of your point though. Robson-Kanu is a distinctly average player. He was last year when he hit some form, and he is still now when he's not getting the best from himself and is performing badly.

Given football has far more variables than baseball, it isn't unreasonable for HRK to be doing significantly worse without actually being significantly worse

It's an interesting point but remember he's playing against inferior opposition every week. The statistical measurement of baseball players [I assume] takes place within the top tier of the sport year after year.

I can buy some fluctuation around whatever his average form is, but playing down in the Championship and being so lacklustre leads me to believe there's more at play here than just regression to the mean.

I meant to have "ability" in quotation marks. Yes, performance.

How do you define "distinctly average"? Some people would use it to talk about Jonny Evans, some for Dean Morgan. I think HRK is useful in the Championship. but not a star member of our squad. Realistically we couldn't hope for much more from a back up winger.

Fair point compared to last season, but not compared to the previous two seasons. I think the other major contributing factor is being played out of position. Most of his goals last season were scored from the right wing. Before that, his best performances tended to come from the left wing (I think he scored one and set one up after coming on at 1-1 with ~20 minutes to go against Barnsley, for example- that was the first time he really looked like a Championship player). Playing in the hole doesn't give him the same opportunities to get in behind, or else take on a defender one-on-one.

Can I ask that NA tells us what his team is on Friday night please?

On Saturday I got up a 04.45, got a bus, and a train (2 changes) to Amsterdam, then caught a plane to London then navigated my way to Reading, via Heathrow, Railair, Reading Buses to the game.

I put in considerably more effort to get to the game than HRK put into a woeful 45 minutes - and he was getting paid.

Next time if I am told he is playing at last I have to choice of staying in bed, saving about £400 and therefore putting in as much efort as he did Saturday i.e. bugger all

BTW- the way he and Hopeless Akpan speak about how wonderful they both are, does anyone know if they have the same agent??
