Guess we will see if the TSI "no longer have to sell our best players" stuff was genuine or bullshit.

Just because the club doesn't have to sell, doesn't mean they wont. If a player decides he wants out, it can be very difficult for a club to keep him, especially in this scenario when a highly praised young English goalkeeper gets an international call-up, where the players and coaches can and probably will turn his head. Selling him wont mean any of those promises are "bullshit" though, but it's not always in the clubs hands!

I wish people wouldn't pretend that was something it's not. You're missing the rather crucial 'to fill a financial blackhole' that puts that in context. Even Manchester Utd have to sell players sometimes if that player really wants to leave. So we're certainly no exception to the player power rule.

Where did that quote come from?
Or where was it taken out of context from?
Or perhaps where was this quote made up from?

Indeed, the key is that (as NA has said) any business done will be on 'our terms'. Therefore if we get an offer deemed acceptable then we might let him go, but we're not forced to sell him because we're under financial pressure, as would have been the case 2 years ago.

Agree with most of what Dirk has said on this thread. He'll be off in the summer I suspect.

It wasn't taken out of context. He was on the phone with SSN about 8pm tonight & those were the exact words he used. They asked him directly if he felt he needed to be in the PL to stay in the England squad. He also said he had 2 years left on his contract and was happy at Reading but he didn't know what the future held.

If someone offers enough then we will sell him. The fact that we're better off financially these days just means that we can set a price and don't need to go below it. It's in nobody's best interest to keep a player who doesn't want to be there.

Sad to see him go BUT i'd rather he be the player we lose to fill the black hole than any other - as Fedders is more than decent enough in the Championship

Yup - the same player who played every minute of every game last season and kept 20 clean sheets

Played behind a good defence in the Championship, McCarthy is behind the worst defence in the Premier League and has proven himself a better keeper.

It doesn't lrf isn't the brightest. Fed would be disappointing as no 1 next season. But perfectly good enough as you say.

This is a good test of TSI's credibility and resolve. If McCarthy is still with us by the end of August it might shut people like me up for 5 minutes. I suspect however he will be gone sooner rather than later.

TBF, if McCarthy gets an offer from a big club and decides he wants to take it, then it's stuff all to do with TSI what happens next. Would anyone really want to see us try to match the wages offered by Big 5 club?

How about if we hold out for a couple of months (because we are now able) and sell him for >£10m?

More than £10m for a young 'keeper who has played 13 times in the top flight?

And the cow jumped over the moon.
