Expectations are high because the club ramped them up in their season ticket drive in May and June!
Suggest you take a look at your season ticket reminder which was sent out in the summer and read Adkins' vision for the coming season!!

And again, it does not happen over night. Reading fans are amongst the thickest in football and need a real education.

Just because you say you want to do something, does not always mean it's going to happen or it will take longer than expected.

You are too clever for me because I didn't get the raffle thing!

Assume that seeing you are a Reading fan, that puts you in the 'thick' bracket!!

Royal91 I just think people's expectations are too high, it will take over a year for us to be fluid.

Like many people I tend to judge a man on his word. My expectations have been for Nigel to at least get close to delivering on his own objectives (Auto promotion hunt, 100 goals, x clean sheets, good football etc.). If circumstances change which mean they can no longer be achived in the timeframes originally specified, then say why and I will agree if they are reasonable. However, trying to get straight answers out of him has thus far proved difficult, even on relatively harmless questions regarding team selections and substitution decisions.

marcusopp The reason half of us are moaning is because Brian should have never been sacked. Madejski said himself at the time he wouldn't have sacked Brian. Anton was being the smarmy cnut he is at the start, then sacked McD, now he's fecked off.
Even if Nigel sorted things out and got established, who's to say he won't be treated the same way?
Revolving doors have never been a part of Reading. We've always been a small, stable (ish) club. We're not Chelsea, no matter how much the new RFC fans want us to be. Where the feck were you on new years day, 1993 at home to York city when the game was so sh1t we spent the entire 90 mins caning one of their guys for wearing an anorak?
"Anorak, give us a wave, anorak anorak give us a wave"!
Then we went 1-0 up,
"Anorak, what's the score....
To be fair, he both waved and demonstrated the score while wearing an anorak in the pissing rain in our uncovered away end.

^ This. Well put, Sir.

He did deserve to be sacked - the timing of it was correct

We had just lost convincingly at home to two relagation rivals and there was no way out from there.
His squad, his signings - he didn't play his summer ones and the Jan ones weren't even championship standard
His tactics - which bordered on embarrassing at times

It might be that behind the scenes the goalposts have been moved significantly and he hasn't been given the resources that he was promised by the owner and the chairman. He might not be prepared to stand up and say so for fear of creating a Vincent Tan type situation.

SPARTA FFS! Seriously, another thread on this subject?

People seem to forget the ugly effective long-ball game we played under McDermott, and the fact we weren't this high in the table the season he got us promoted...
?

Wrong old chap. The season we got promoted we were 7th at this stage, now we are 8th. We were 11 points behind the leaders, as we are now. We managed to get promoted from that position by winning 15 from the next 17 ... Alas ... it aint gonna happen again.

Feck off. He was clearly given insufficient funds so he couldn't buy the quality of player needed.

A fate they both suffer from. No disrespect to either, they've both had it tough.

I just find it amazing how people can defend the current football and tactics, yet slate Brian's. We were in the Premier League playing much superior opposition weekly. Desperate measures were the order of the day. Currently we have no excuse as we have a (marginally) better squad than most of our opponents. Getting outclassed by Yeovil and relying on a dive for a pen to get our solitary shot on goal was a prime example. Bournemouth was another.

Handsome Man
marcusopp With painfully poor performances, a terrible sun tan and a much better squad than McD had throughout his reign it's made me reflect on the good times under McDermott.
We played a direct style because that's what we had the playing staff to do. But under McD, 1 nil down with 5 minutes to go, you knew there was going to be a big finish and never felt like we were out of it (in the Championship at least).
The squad was a proper squad, with no (apparent) egos 'til Pog and Guthrie arrived.
And we had Kebe!

?
Nigel has a worse squad than we have had since Rodgers tried to get by with youth players. Nigel has nobody half as good as Kebe, Sigurdson, Long, a young McAnuff or a fit Roberts.

Brian, anyway.

How do you know there is nobody as good as the above. They have youth players that have played for there countries including England. They are probably asking the same questions to why they are not given a chance.
