Sutekh .................... I'm hoping will be the big push for promotion in 2016/2017.

As long as that is a promotion push to get out of the Championship, not League 1...............

You would not need to push for relegation to League 1, just continue to play the way the team has so far in 2015 and we'll drop to League One.

Maybe the Pearce thing isn't entirely about money, maybe he sees Derby as wholly more likely to challenge at the top end of the table than we are. And who would argue against that.

Yep, can't argue with it like Mills to Leicester or Morrison to Cardiff.

Good shout mate. I know we all need to adopt a sense of realism peops however, at this rate, we'll all be turning up for the new season wearing black arms bands if we're not careful

Wonder how close he actually was to signing for Liverpool however long ago it was, his stock has certainly fallen since then.

PeterReadingborn59 Hopefully the club is already looking at alternative centre back coverage as even with Cooper the squad has only three recognised CBs, I am assuming that the ex-QPR player will remain a cameo figure until his contract ends, and as Brian M. always says a strong squad need four CBs to cover for injury and suspensions. The current transfer market is dominated by "free" moves as clubs or players do not resign or extend contracts, probably only see the Premiership clubs actually pay monies and normally just prior to season start and end of transfer deadline.
In the current climate Pearce's agent will earn his fee if he finds another club to match the rates Pearce was on.

Hector, Cooper, Sweeney, Keown,.... Ferdinand, Hyam, Dickie,

Based on this 7 second clip, i would take this guy over Pearce  . He's shown more willingness to not concede than Pearce has done in his Reading career!

Royal Rother After being on a contract originally framed around membership of the PL, and narrowly avoiding relegation last season....

Too damned right we expect him to take a pay cut.

He's one of our most consistent players. We need a good CB and he's one of ours. if Derby offer him better, he'll go there at 26. No questions asked. We desperately need 35+ games a season players, especially if we're trimming our squad size. if his move is confirmed in the next couple of weeks, we've lost two in the space of a month. As FS mentioned, youre picking on the wrong players.

I've not picked on anybody (except HRK) but I do not believe in overpaying players just because the club has overpaid them in the past.

Good luck to Pearce, I hope he does well.

But you can surely accept that saying losing Pearce is bad news doesn't mean you think we should be offering him much more than he's worth to keep him, necessarily. The issue here isn't necessarily with the club's offer - though our ability to replace the player has to surely be factored into the decision on how far to go, if we know it'll cost us more to replace his importance in our squad than we've offered, we should offer more. But that losing him, whether the club has made the right call or not, is damaging to squad quality and recruitment needs.

I don't entirely follow your logic (at this time of night) but can't really argue with anything of that.

Lose him and sign somebody on same money that would have kept Pearce but is no better than him (unless he was considered a negative influence, which is hard to believe) would be stupid.

I am assuming that's not the case.

I guess so is the club.

But unless they've someone lined up - together with a deal - it just seems like adding unnecessary risks to our summer procurement strategy (assuming we have one).

I think Reading's young players should be used but as the list shows the only one with any significant Reading FC first team experience is Hector, Ferdinand's match experience has been restricted in the last two seasons, so if Pearce moves another proven CB would appreciated, unless Clarke is open to taking a chance and putting younger players in.

Apparently the offer to Pearce was close to 50% of what he was currently on, same with Feds, so if their agents can get them similar deals good luck to them, but who we sign will likely be at the much reduced rate or lower
