there are only 3 players in the England u18's squad that are not at Prem clubs. 2 of which are in the chump - Jaden Dixon (Stoke City) and Amin Nabizada (Watford). Then Garcia at Reading in league 1. A truly tremendous achievement to even be called up

Well done to Garcia. A good experience and will hopefully add a few more thousands on to his value.

The Cube Basil Tuma called up for Malta, so that's three. Incidentally, Shrewsbury made it clear that it was Reading who had called the game off.

Interesting one re Tuma. He's not been in any first team or academy squads for ages so assumed not fit....even if he's just coming back from injury he can't be match fit.

I think the game Tuesday was the first time I’ve really seen what Garcia is all about. He looked a massive prospect - that inverting inside and dictating play - the second goal a real demonstration

Great news for the call up - let’s hope this takeover goes through and we can get decent value for him when he inevitably moves to bigger and better things

Seems to be a feature of Noel’s management. Youngsters seem to be about to break through but then disappear for ages, then suddenly they get a call due to injury or whatever and away they go. Tuma has been starting the break through - 5 or so league apps now I think - and now just needs that moment. He’s meant to have blistering pace but doesn’t turn 20 until next month so guess he still needs to fill out physically though he’s obviously rated by the Maltese management. Hope he makes it with Reading too.

He's obviously got bags of talent, and it's just a bit too much exposure to the first team a bit too soon for him right now. But that will probably reap longer term rewards.

I'm just not sure what his position is. Obviously highly technical and skillful, but doesn’t look like a winger in terms of being comfortable scoring and assisting a lot... lots of great breakaways that then peter out.

And his defending and concentration mean not sure he fits at fullback, he clearly seems to want to play a bit further forward. Maybe the defending will come, maybe he'll end up as a playmaker in midfield... dunno. Clearly got the talent though.

100 m bronze medallist at England schools level (I think what would be Year 9, so 13-14), 11.2 seconds.

It seems very sensible to give promising players an early taste of senior football, then take them back to focus on their development away from the lime light again where possible. Just focus on the football and develop the areas their experience highlighted as necessary.

Avoids the too much too soon issues, over confidence, manages expectations and pressures, cockiness.

Wow....what did Gilksey run the 100m at in the Rumbelows challenge that time?

LOL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_9EerSDsKk

final of the heats won in 12.04 by Hull's Leigh Jenkinson. 11.4 achieved by someone in the heats, I guess that was Iffy Onuara and 12.16 by Adrian Littlejohn.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AulBG_PeKHY

Williams wins his heat in 11.64, then beats Gilkes with 11.57
(cheeky shot of the prisoner away kit in the coverage)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSyqxBtOtcw

Focus on Gilkes heat, about 12 seconds - pulls up at the line to let Ekoku in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjCcVMyaZLo

final starts at about 2:45 here

Winning time of 11.49 for Williams, so Gilkes around 11.6?

Tuma had a hamstring injury, but appears to have been at training in the last couple of weeks.

Praying for the new owner deal to get over the line next week so we can finally offer him a proper deal and cover ourselves for the inevitable.

Michael Gilkes, still the most exciting Reading player. Basic but, *&%€£^%*!, the anticipation in the crowd whenever he got the ball on the left wing. Give anything to have someone like that now esp. these days when everyone has a wing back obsession.

Kebe was an upgrade on Gilkes, had more than just the pace !
Liked it when Gilkes dropped to full back and gave the opposition an extra 30 yards start and STILL beat them !

Just for completeness, Adam Gemili, ex of this parish, ran a 9.97 100m. Think he's actually the first British athelete to do both sub 10s 100 and sub 20s 200.

Daley Thompson, also ex of this parish, PB is 10.3 s for the 100m, set during a decathlon. You'd imagine he could have broken 10s.

Daley played a pre season game for us once, and from memory scored, part of some documentary he was doing. Pretty sure we were second tier too at the time.

Just noticed that Tuma actually started for the U21s against Wolves today - not sure how many minutes he got
