We haven't had a keeper that gets near a penalty for ages.

Because it's Mbegue. He's either going to do something really well or really bad and nothing in-between.

Bouzanis is a better keeper than Boyce-Clarke......would rather he were no2 rather than out on loan.

Shame. Not massively bothered, we just don’t have the squad to compete in cups as well atm

Enough good stuff second half to stay fairly optimistic. Missed smith massively

When did we last save a penalty? Must be 2 years at least

Would help if when they do get near it if they would actually get something on it at all.

Boyce-Clarke has regressed sadly. I remember watching his debut against Man United for the Under 21s and being shocked that he was only 15 because he was so good.

Not sure I'd be having Bouzanis anywhere near number 2 keeper though.

Last season, Boyce Clarke saved Aluko's penalty in the shootout v Ipswich

Back in my hotel. Walked back from ground, including that solid hill up to the town centre.

Yeah, first half played at the tempo of a pre-season game, not much squad depth and not helped by the necessary substitution of the centre back.

Second half much better, carved them for most of the back 25.

Wareham ain't bad but not sure if he's good. Certainly need something extra up front to see out a whole season.

Actual LOLZ at the car park from the report of the other Ding fan in the hotel though.

Wareham's a busy player with some skill. But I'm not convinced he's got what it takes. Never really looks like he'd score.

Not that quick. Strong, but a bit too small for that vs CBs. Not really got tricks.

Sutekh Reading always seem to lose on penalties in the league cup

Didn't we beat Wycombe a couple of seasons back?

Yes, and franchise a couple of years before that. However Reading have now lost 3 of the last 3 shoot outs in the League Cup.

2024 - lost to Colchester
2023 - lost to Ipswich
2019 - lost to Wolves

Anyone claiming we should have played the first team can't have gone to Birmingham. Mbengue, Smith, knibbs, Craig were all struggling to walk when they came over to the fans at the end. We don't have the squad to compete in the cups at the moment. Imagine if one or two first teamers got injured yesterday, there would be uproar on here that Selles didn't rest them.

The challenge of a manager these days eh! Draw away at a team who spent 14 million in the summer, lose on penalties in a game 3 days after half our team ran themselves into the ground and still 'fans' constantly complain that Selles doesn't know what he's doing.
