Fezza If we had a replacement I wouldn’t be overly bothered. He’s a good L1 striker, who we're making a good profit on.

The money from this will keep us afloat for a few more months, making a sale more likely than administration.

I do though wonder how close we are to another penalty for not publishing accounts - is there a point where HMRC can take us over?

Suspect others will also go before the deadline, although at this stage the sale remains far more important than any player (no matter his importance on the pitch).

To be honest I think administration is the only route out of this mess and to get Dai out.

£2m will only tie us over until the summer and that's if Dai doesn't take a cut for himself.

Administration is the only way out of this and I feel it will need to be the fans who force it by not buying season tickets next season.
Cant see any other way to remove this carbuncle.

Hound Multi million pound apparently

It’s a kick in the nuts but again we prob have to take it. We picked him up for free and big profit

We just need to be allowed to sign a replacement (on loan) or we’re really
Going to struggle

If it's multi million, as in more than £2m, we've absolutely mugged them.

Mr Optimist Play Kelvin as a central striker, I think he has the pace and power for it.

100% agree on Kelvin E.

I think he's tougher than he at first appears (because he's not a typically wide-shouldered and big framed as Smith) and would not get bullied. He may even get one of those hundred or so free kicks in dangerous areas that somehow eluded Smith.

Without a points deduction we should be able to stay in this league. Play-offs were a bit of a red herring. The money keeps us solvent.

Sooner or later Dai will have to sell, then as long as it's an owner with a vision for the football club and not asset stripping, the renewal can begin.

Kelvin strikes me as not even remotely up for a tussel with brick shithouse centreback with his back to goal and the ball coming in above waist height.

I'd expect a repeat of Joao getting constantly bullied and dumped on his arse.

Maybe Smith made it clear that he wants out of the shitshow and Garcia hasn't because the latter knows if he moves now, he won't play?

Or the club think they can get more for Garcia than has been offered.

Seems unlikely on the first countz although obviously Wrexham are very likely to go up, have a huge media profile and will pay him more, so he'd obviously be pissed off missing out... maybe he has a release clause.

What Garcia wants doesn’t matter to be honest. He's not good enough for the first XI yet, he should be peripheral to it at best, whereas Smith is essential to it. If there's a choice between the two, Smith going is objectively the wrong choice.

Smith was very vocal about being brought to the club under false pretences. He then did another statement when the couhig deal fell through saying how devastated he was, and how it was affecting him mentally. Then Seles left.. it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he said he wanted to talk to Wrexham once they showed their interest. Usually when a player says they want to talk to a club that’s it. Game over. Another thing to note. Brian Carey is a Wrexham legend. That might have had a baring on the talks.

I know it’s doom and gloom but the reported 2 mill is very good business for what is a league 1 striker. I don’t think he’s going to pull up and trees in the champ tbh. And who knows maybe we’ve been on to the EFL about getting in a replacement. I’m sure Carey has a list as long as your arm of players who we might be able to get in until the end of the season. Let’s see where we are end of Monday when the window closes before getting too pissed off. But I don’t doubt Smiths importance to the team, and very much echo Pepe’s post above. The 3 people we could not lose in this window was smith knibbs or wing. So it is incredibly frustrating we will lose smith. But it’s good money, should mean we survive as a club until the end of the season. And we might just might be able to bring in a replacement.

Smith has been very vocal in a couple of interviews expressing his frustration. Seems (rightly) he feels hoodwinked by the vison sold to him was not what was behind the curtain.
Like pretty much all pro footballers, loyalty and commitment are always up for sale and if he made it clear he wanted to go, very little could be done.
Garcia may still go but I doubt it would have have been a straight choice between the two. We don't know the amount offered for Garcia and if it would be enough to cover the shortfall until the summer.
Season is pretty much over now anyway as we limp toward May pretending what happens on the pitch matters.

I do think we're going to have a Bolton situation next season if there is no sale by then, they went down to League Two because all they could field was a bunch of frees and youngsters (sounds familiar). We may have been able to put together a competitive side when we got relegated to League One but who would waste their time with us now?

This.

Big Kelv works best coming from deep, with the ball at his feet.

Dean up front. Play it long. Shit house the fuck out of the rest of the season.

Wrexham may not even be promoted yet. But agreed in the championship I think he'll be bang average. In league one he's very prolific and will score goals for them as well as a local lad so seeing him go is hard.

I’m not sure he’s local - have you heard him speak

It’s another good job done by the academy (eventually) though

Losing Smith will likely mean the end of our play off hopes. But in terms of the bigger picture, if the money means we don't have to sell anyone else and the club can be funded until the end of June, that will be a good thing. Noel's job will be to make sure we are not relegated - which, barring massive points deductions, should be simple enough. Then it is over to the ownership situation. If the club is not sold by the summer, I just don't see us starting next season. If we do and if the accounts have not been published, we will only be left with a few players no one wants (as all the better players will undoubtedly want to move on) and 16-18 year olds. Then even if by some miracle the club is still standing, next season will just be an unthinkable sh** show.

Hence why I wouldn't renew in that situation, don't want to subject myself to absolute dogshit results knowing the ownership are the cause of it all.

I don't see why the EFL would or should give us special dispensation to sign a replacement, unfortunately. It's all entirely of Dai's doing.

May as well try some of the academy players up top, as Wareham isn't up to it. Ehib has tried it, but it isn't his best position. Who knows, maybe Noel Hunt will register himself as a player and give it a go!

Who else is there from the Academy?

Coke-Miles-toomanynames?
Okine-Peters?

Our options are basically, Knibbs, Wareham, Ehibhatiomhan or Dean (lol papes), and three of them are already starting elsewhere.
