Fantastic news.

Far more important that Coppell extends his stay with the Royals than Sidwell.

From Yahoo news

In typically-modest style, Coppell seemed bemused that his signing was deemed worthy of attention, but he claimed it was an easy decision to make.

"I was hoping it would be done quietly and swept under the carpet, but obviously there has been a bit more fuss now," he said.

"I'm pleased that the club have committed to it and we can now get on with it."

He added: "When it was put to me to sign for two years I thought I'm lucky at Reading because I enjoy working with the people I work with, the staff support me 100% and I enjoy working with the people I work for.

"I have a good relationship with the chairman and the board, he lets me get on with the job, there's little interference and that was very important.

"From my point of view, I'm not going to better that in many other places, so it was the ideal time to make a bit more of a commitment."

He's the lucky one, yeah

Woodcote Royal Great news!!!

And, for those who couldn't tell the difference between this contractual negotiation and Sidwell's, I hope this helps ( but I won't hold my breath  )

You just can't let it go can you.

That makes 2 of us, then, plus Wycombe, who appears to be groping for the true meaning of "vast"

interesting bit mid-way down where he says he has 'condfidence in him (JM), Nigel and Ian to steer the ship' reference to clarity of roles etc.... but no mention of the squeaky one.

On his way out?

Hammond doesn't steer the ship he works on player transfers and the like, it's the board who steer the ship and plan the finances, Hammond just uses what they give him.

One is a player, one is a manager - that is a vast difference in footballing contractual negotiations. With your superior knowledge I thought you would have known that.

Was it ever in doubt?! There's a mutual love-in with Reading and Coppell, and long may it continue. If we don't win the Prem in the next two years though I hope JM sees sense and drops him like a hot potato.

Yeah, I think we can all 100% agree that this is FANTASTIC news.
I didn't think Coppell would extend to two years, as he was very committed to the 1 year plan.
But he has the commitment from the Chairman, has looked at our medium term plans and has decided that he can now have a two year plan with our current and future players.

He says he's the lucky one, I think after all this time we still think that we are the lucky ones.

So fair play, and let's continue this work in progress!

His humility and good grace make him a modern day Jesus - if only more people in this world were like Stevie C.

Vastly different situation, but don't let that get in the way of your weak argument............

I may be missing something, but there is and always has been a huge difference between manager contractsd and player contracts, a key one being that the players also have a registration which is held by the club for the duration of their contract so the contract is all but unbreakable, whereas the manager can walk out anytime and there is not a fat lot the club can do about it...

Chairmen said yesterday on SSN that Hammond had handled the whole thing himself, which is a clear indication of how much he does. Surprised we didn't see any off Coppell with Hammond yesterday, but as usual he lets others take the credit...

True, in a way a "2-year" contract term doesn't really mean anything since there will always be a way of getting rid of a manager, or a manager leaving, within that time. However with Copps I would like to think that both parties would have faith and see out the contract, even if (worst case scenario) we are relegated next season and don't do well the following season. The only exception might be if we are looking likely to get relegated the following season from the Championship! But it just aint going to happen.
