I would also request a personal hearing, and then Leroy can tell the FA that he was verbally provoked by the Charlton bloke; a precedent was set after the WC Final, and El Kharkouri will also be banned.

I'm in favour of Leroy getting a ban. He did this in a game earlier this season when he was headbutting backwards in the wall and I screamed at the telly that we didn't need to be playing with 10 men. Karkouri might have done us a favour by highlighting this when we're already safe - that said, I'm not holding my breath that Lita will learn from a mistake.

If you charge everyone who gets involved in the pushing and shoving in the wall or at corners then the league would stop after 2 games.....

Watch John Terry, Rio Ferdinand or Sonks at set pieces - red card offences all the time both by and on them yet rarely even a free kick.

I take your point but jostling and a bit of pulling, which goes on all the time and could be penalised, is slightly different to a headbutt.

I hope he sorts himself out - he's on the verge of great things IMHO

I'm sorry but he's not quite in control of all his faculties if he thinks it's okay to aim a headbutt (not a push or a tug) at an opponent - at least twice. He needs to get rid of this attitude. I don't agree with people who say it adds to his (or Rooney's) play - just think how much better these players could be if they could concentrate on football rather than all this macho sh!t.

What Leroy did wasn't a head butt though...

Any more than the waving off arms at a corner is a punch.

So he should only get a ban if he connects with his next one?

I'd think givinghim 3 chances to get a proper connection sounds fair.

Can we nominate who he goes up against - I'd argue for Emre....

Not one for gossip, but I read this on the beeb gossip page,
West Brom midfielder Jason Koumas is a target for Blackburn while Baggies striker Diomansy Kamara is wanted by Reading. (Daily Mirror)

Moving your arms about and using your hands to keep tabs of your opponent is allowable. Making a headbutting action is not. Therefore in the real world it's much easier to penalise a headbutt as there is no reason for doing it apart from to be violent and so it's more black and white than a bit of puching and shoving.

Although at set pieces you see shirt pulling, kicking, digs in the ribs, holding - endless infringements, many of which have an element of violent intent.

Not disagreeing about headbutts being wrong, but there are grey areas and I don;t think Leroy was actually trying to headbutt a bloke quite a bit taller than him !

Rhys The Royal
paultheroyal Just seen the footage - yes a meal was made of it - but intent was there - contact was made even if it was light - he will get punished and will get at least a 3 game ban.

Coppell will not be impressed. Lita wont start again this season now.

Yes - come on Rhys - why the laughter?

I agree. It was more show than intent. I'd be interested in knowing what caused the 'gesture' but I doubt that we will ever find out because the FA don't appear to respond well to any plea in mitigation.

All Leroy needs to do is say that Al Kakouri made a racist remark and he'll probably get off altogether.
The fact that Al Kakouri probably doesn't speak much English won't matter-look at the precedent with Emre at Newcastle.

Because of what can be seen on the video ?

Why do you think he was trying to inflict harm on the bloke ?

I think he was trying to headbutt him, not necessarily hard enough to inflict much harm, if any. Why? because he clearly flicked his head at him, I certainly don't think it was accidental!

It's hardly uncommon for footballers to let out a bit of frustration/anger on an opponent. And Mr Lita hardly has a clean copy book for petulant violent behaviour.

I can't see any reason why you'd think he wasn't trying to headbutt him.
