Indeed  They used to, I'm sure.

I think Trafford used to be part of the City of Salford before the last reorganisation which took it all into Greater Manchester.

Funny enough, I used to think that they played in Salford. I didn't know about the reorganisation. Why can't we do that here and take back Earley, Woodley, Calcot etc etc?

I was amazed today to see just how close Wokingham is to the MadStad. It would appear that the boundary is just behind Hurst Way, behind the South Stand. CostCo is actually in Wokingham!

Look on here to see the boundary : http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=51.419735&lon=-0.983797&z=14.6&r=0&src=msl

Spacey was desperately reaching for, but failing to get to, Airbus UK F.C., the works team of Airbus UK (obv), based in Broughton.

Though they are usually known as PSV Eindhoven, the club is offically just PSV, or Philips Sport Vereniging (Philips Sport Union); they started out as a works team.

AEK are based in Athens, but the name actually translates to "Athletic Union of Constantinople"! They were formed by refugees from Constantinople following the Greco-Turking War in 1924.

Has anyone mentioned Raith Rovers yet? Based in Kirkcaldy.

Is Charlton a place name (or, for that matter, Millwall)? If so, do they to this day have geographical relevance?

Charlton has been swallowed by London IIRC.

Millwall exists though.

Great Knolly True, but Windsor is far more Royal. I've never thought of Reading as Royal. Does anybody ?

Does having a monarch buried in the town give us a reasonable 'Royal' connection ?

Long live King Henry I!

Only 872 years too late! "Long dead, King Henry I" might be better.

I like being a Royal, if that helps move the debate along, but I was born after the name change anyway. "Biscuitmen" sounds so naff; I'd defend it to the death if I had supported the Royals when they still were Biscuitmen.

It occurs to me that we're not the only club to have chosen a new nickname through a newspaper vote, as Sunderland replaced Rokermen with the Black Cats when they moved to the Stadio de Luz.

No (sorry, I'm a Lancashire historian), Trafford was always part of Manchester, until the creation of Trafford MBC in 1974; it was never part of Salford, which is on the other side of the Ship Canal (so only about 200 yards away from OT).

Duke the Dog Berkshire is like Middlesex (and various other long-forgotten minor Welsh counties like er, Monmouthshire - i can't remember the others  ), it only exists on the map or as sporting associations (eg Berkshire CC).

As an administrative entity is doesn't exist. You try and find a road sign that says "Welcome to Berkshire"! - Someone'll bloody find one now won't they!

There's one as you cross the Thames on the A404 from Wycombe - it always gives me a small glow of satisfaction as I drive down to a match...

Apologies - I stand corrected. I'm sure, though, that Man City fans in the past have said many times that Man Utd's not in Manchester, it's in Salford. Has this never been true?

No, it's never been true. And most City fans are stupid.

The only crumb  of comfort for all 'Biscuitmen' is that the memory lives on through the Hob Nob Anyone.

Ross County play in Dingwall, Partick Thistle play in Maryhill, Albion Rovers play in Coatbridge and East Stirlingshire are one of the two teams in Falkirk.

But to be fair, Dingwall was the county town of what was the County of Ross, and Falkirk was in the eastern half of the former county of Stirlingshire.

If you're going to be that tight, you'd have to include Notts County (although they do play in Nottinghamshire).
