Behindu Was he at fault for the goal where Robinson hacked it off his toes ?

Cole never started passing to him so hard to see how he coul dhave stopped !!

And given that Cole didn;t pass to him he would have been hard pressed to hit many crosses !

Shorey's been a 6 in the games he's played - nothing special, but done nothing wrong. Hasn;t forced himself into the strating line up but done nothing to suggest he shoul dbe dropped. Will need to up his game if he wants to become a fixture though.

Spot on.

RTG's in the post for both of you.

I have a pair already, I keep them in my pocket though.

Alan Partridge Whilst not to get caught up with the NONCE SENSE on this thread. What has Shorey done this season to warrant a call up? Why should he play instead of Everton's captain and a very underrated player at that. Neville has 60 caps or so but of course he's hopeless. Each and every single one of you know if he was at Reading a) he would walk into our side and probably be captain and b) you'd all be screaming for him to play for England. The sheer biased, blinkered views on here are laughable at times.

Shorey has been part of a quite frankly awful defence for the most part and his performances have been well down on last years efforts. He has done absolutely nothing to deserve being in the squad.

When he has played he's done OK, 6 out of 10's in every game. But nothing to special to deserve starting or being 2nd choice. It won't be long before Leighton Baines takes that spot anyway.

Spot on.

There are many on the team forum who can only be described as subjective to the extreme and dellusional.

I would love to see Shorey playing well enough to justify a place, but on his current form and past England performances he will be lucky to keep his place in the squad let alone start.

Oi Oi Saveloy RTG's in the post for both of you.

Why ?
On current club form I don;t think Shorey would attract England attention.

But there isn;t much point misrepresenting what he's done in his limited England appearances.
RTG's would claim he's been a 'star, which he hasn;t. But he's not done much wrong.

Behindu But he's not done much wrong.

Except being at fault for one of Germanys goals when he failed to clear the ball into touch.

Apart from not being able to hit a single decent cross during both matches (most went behind for a goal kick) when in good positions.

When did he get the opportunity to put in crosses? Cole never passed to him and he'd clearly been told to stay back and play it simple.

1 debateble fault for one goal does not equal a shit game

I think you are wrong there. Shorey did not fail to clear the ball. If you look at the replay it was Robinson who hacked it straight to the German forward (and then dropped the cross!)

Big Ern talking complete and utter bollocks again. It is somehow reassuring to see that some things never change.

I guess I have to hold my hand up as well then, as I too failed to clear that ball into touch.

readingtillidie true i just felt this time around he might actuall of went.I am sure its just a slight dip in form i cant possible imagine what its like for him with all of the hype surrounding him iam sure all he wants is to get back to winning ways and clean sheets

If he goes i'd expect a large amount of money for him. Young England international with premiership experience. More than a year left on his contract I believe.? Lovely jubbly.

Not sure about the "young" bit-isn't he 26 or 27?

mzungu_royal Nicky Shorey does deserve a bench place but not a place in the first XI. He's not been performing well for club so he only desires a place on the bench for England.

When did not performing well for club make a difference in the eyes of Sven or McLaren?

LOLuke Young called up as AshLOLey CoLOLes replacement.

ShoROFLey might just have to get back to working hard for his club and get his priorities back in check!

Isn't Young a right back?

Don't see how that changes anything if he is... full back replaced by full back, still leaves the left sided specialist to fit into his place.

If Young is a left back, makes sense, replace a LB with a LB, Shorey was still in the squad ahead of him, or did you expect Cole to be left out of the squad for a striker/midfielder?

Young is a right back and simply means that Mclaren is replacing a full back with another full back.

Unusual that he hasn't replaced him with another Left Back, but correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Lescott two-footed enough to play there if need be?

This is like people reading into Shorey not being on the bench.

Shorey wasn't on the Bench because he's a left back and that's his position. Much like Ashley Cole, he isn't versatile enough to play anywhere else. What you want on the Bench is players who can cover more than one position in case injuries happen somewhere unexpected. Hence Phil Neville and Lescott getting the nod.

Exactly - Paul Robinson.

He was picked for England as "he hasn't let England down". Who else has had a chance?

McClaren has a few options over the left-back spot:

1. Play the only natural left-back in Shorey.

2. Lescott has played in that position before.

3. McClaren may put Barry at left-back and put Lampard into the midfield.

4. McClaren may go for experience and may go for Phil Neville, although he hasn't played in that position for years.

Of those options;

1.Is the obvious but unikely to be adopted solution.
2. Welcome to a 3-0 defeat.
3. Barry would be OK at LB but the midfield would be unbalanced again without a holding midfielder. Welcome to a 2-0 defeat.
4. The solution most likely to be adopted by McClown, even though it would be wrong solution.

I'm actually not bothered if Shorey plays or not, in fact on reflection I'd rather he didn't as he'll be shafted for the Blackburn game and unless England keep a clean sheet he's unlikely to enhance his repuation in this game.

How is that in any way Robinsons fault?!

He has made mistakes, the Germany goal being a good example, however the ball bobbling like that is nothing to do with his ability. I'd say Robinsons kicking is actually a strong point for him.

As for Shorey, I can't see him starting on Wednesday, not in a good vein of form at all (so much so that he hasn't really warrented a place in the England squad this season) and Phil Neville has the extra experience that is needed to play in a hostile environment, as well as being in good form and is more than capeable of filling in for Cole.
