I voted for X games.

I am, of course, presuming that X = 10,000.

LOL to the sad cnuters who've posted a completel load of mindless rubbish on the board recently. Do you not have anything better to do?

Either that or you're all Poxford fans.

I don't understand the anger of this thread, take out the wind up merchants and it's an overwhelming endorsement of the manager, and rightly so.

Personally I don't understand what a lot of negative posters are actually on about.

Player X has 2 bad games and should be immedately dropped.

Acadamy plaers with little or no experience should go straight in to the first team.

SC has no nouse in the transfer market and the players he has bought can't cut it.

WTF is that all about? Have I missed the last 3 seasons? Is Tommy Burns wearing a Coppell mask?

I could go on but I'll only end up swearing copiously.

He's never rated you either.

Perhaps you could both mark each other out of ten?

Presumably this is a tongue in cheek comment!!!!!!!!!!! So I wont pass comment.
Certainly any manager that presides over a record breaking 106 league points followed by 8th place in the Premiership on a fraction of the budget of his peers (who happen to think he has been their best during that period) deserves time to sort the current malaise out. He has made mistakes, no-one is perfect but if we go down he deserves the chance to bring us back up again. I believe most Reading fans would go along with that.

Royalwaster OK the tenor seems to be that SC is not good enough:

Um, help me out here. What is the fool trying to say here? Tenor? Is he criticising Coppell's ability to sing opera?

I don't think Coppell will be sacked, he will walk away at the end of his contract as I believe he has always intended to do

Whilst it would be silly to consider sacking Coppell now after all he has achieved, I am beginning to see deja-vu regarding whether he can manage top flight players and foreigners.

You look at other English managers like Redknapp, Jewell, Curbishley and so forth and they've all had to bring in big ego players who've had the ability to carry their teams forward - Coppell is proving his man-management skills to be diabolical in this area, along with his choice of tactics.

I'll reserve judgement until I see who else he brings in, but if we do go down then that is when he should go.

That's the whole point of having an Academy, so that when you have the first team guys out, the young lads come in. How do they get the experience?
SC has no nouse in the transfer market and the players he has bought can't cut it. Lots of evidence to back that up in the last year and a half really.

I think we should sit him in front of a computer and get him to play as Reading FC on Football Manager for an entire season.

We can then judge him on how he does and decide if he is good enough to manage the actual Reading FC.

My only issue with that is if the club know he's going to walk away how will it effect performances and the building of the squad etc?

We've seen how dramatic an effect it can have when it's known a manager is leaving at the end of season (Sir Bobby at Newcastle and Fergie at Utd) and I'm not sure we can afford a similar decline.

I'm not saying he should be sacked, but I'm not sure he should be allowed to just drift along to the end of his contract as it destabalises the club.

I wonder how the Everton fans reacted when Moyes nearly took them down the season after getting them into Europe?

Similarly IIRC.

After what Coppell has achieved here he deserves to have the faith of the supporters at least as much as Moyes did.

What a terrible topic this is "Sack Coppell" Whatever next? Sell Kitson? Mr Mad out? All I can say some so called fans have extremley short memories.
In this day and age of disposable managers the utmost respect must go to Reading FC, Pratts who post crap on forums should look at the history of The Royals, in particular the last 3 years.

........and the key word here may well be history.

Nobody could realistically belittle what we have witnessed at this club since Mr Mad took the helm, culminating in the last three years and what will definitely be regarded as the "Coppell Era" (Burns for example doesn't qualify for association with the word "era" as the connotations are of remembered fondly)

The point is that is all in the past. Both our 106 point season, last season and all of this season is history. The only question is whether or not, in your opinion, do you think Coppell will get it right in the future? Can we stay up with him at the helm - and can we come straight back if the worse did come to the worse? Winning the Championship and highest ever league positions are consigned to record books - no one ever succeeded on nostalgia alone!

On balance, I like the way Coppell goes about his business but I am a little worried it could be his downfall. It is clear we need defenders, a new goalkeeper and to strengthen across the middle of the park to me - Coppell always says the money is available but we don't see any real bolstering of the squad - we do not take many risks on signings or on youth. Come the end of January if we haven't tested youngsters when we have the chance (i.e. the cup replay) or haven't signed anyone in these key positions/ areas of weakness then we will have learned nothing. I do not want to look back at the end of the season thinking we went down without trying something different - and like it or not we are right in the mix.
