No real surprises, it's a shame it's taken this long though to clear the dead wood out of the club. Murty was past his best 18 months ago and just became the annoying mouthpiece for the players on the radio, Hahnemann was hot and cold after his broken hand injury and never consistently at the level of previous seasons. Lita has been a failure since his return from the Under 21 tournament in 2007 and should have departed long ago. Duberry was a stop gap signing for when Sonko done his cruciates and should never have been expected to have been a regular at Premiership level. Golbourne never lived up to his potential, the Bennett signing had no logic behind it.

Good luck to all those who've left, especially Murts and Marcus who will forever retain a place in the hearts of Reading supporters for their outstanding contribution's but the events of the last couple of days have completely refreshened the club up, with new challenges facing up to the management, and I for one am fascinated to see this new look management team go about the challenges it will face in the next couple of months.

I'm also pleased to see Scott Davies offered a new deal. He's consistently done the business for Aldershot in the Conference & League 2 and while a step up to the Championship will be a tall order, I for one hope he's knocking on the door of the 1st team squad next season.

That Friday Feeling
Stooper Sodje not on the list? :?

With regards to Murts, don't think he has any badges as yet.

I guess Sodje hasn't yet returned from Leeds to be given the bad news.

Why would it be bad news for him? Leeds will sign him permantly and Div 3 is probably the highest level where he will be able to shine.

As fas ar Murts and Marcus are concerned, I hope the Testimonial is used as to give them a proper farewell.

Well that's the golden era truly dead and gone now. Entirely necessary but still sad to see them go. Murty has to get a testimony where we can say goodbye to all the other players as well as Coppell, Dillon and Wally. Sodje can do a job for us next season in my view. Every competitive should have 4 decent centre backs, I'd happily see Sodje be the 4th behind Ivar, Bikey and Pearce. He won't want that though so I expect him to reject any deal offered.

What the F'ck is Nick Hammond doing - assuming responsiblity as stand-in manager. Surely it would be better to wait for the new boss to be appointed before terminating contracts - especially amongst Junior players. I think most worthy managers would be rightly p1ssed off if this level of interferrence persists.

Err, Hammond has always handled the contracts of players. That is his job as DoF you doughnut. Glad to see there is little in the way of sentiment being used here, the old guard need to be cleared out and replaced with some fresh blood. Can sort of understand Gunnar being offered a 1 year for his experience in the middle, will help Cisse and Karajan

With the younger players he will have discussed it with the youth coaches.

LOL, are you for real? He's not assuming any responsibility as a stand-in manager. His job is the Director of Football and he is responsible for sorting out players' contracts.

I am also a bit suprised that a new manager has not had the chance to look at the players and decide who should go or stay. Obviously age plays a part with 3 of them and i expect all 4 were higher earners withn the squad? Anyway thanks to Doobs and a massive thanks to Marcus, Murts and Leroy, 3 players i think will be remembered fondly for many a year by royals fans.

Disappointed Gunnarsson's been offered another year as I'd much rather look to bring someone new in or use Karacan, Tabb, Cisse and Marek. Other than that very pleased that the likes of Hahnemann, Murty, Lita and Duberry have gone and would like to thank the former two for all they've done for the club.

Probably because their contracts are up and the only way to keep them for the new manager would be to offer them new contracts, which wouldn't be a good choice.

Ideal Lita never really gave us his best,

You sure? He gave his best in his first season with us and was just slowly returning to form the following season after getting back from injury.

Ideal I would like to see Sodje leave as well,

I think he's already going to leave.

I thought a director of football was supposed to handle transfers and contract negotiations once a manager had decided who he wants sign or offer a contract to and it is not his job to decide which playing staff to release that is down to the manager. I do agree with the release of the players but am just making a point about the director of football's remit.

It could also have been that some of them wished to move to pastures new.

Obviously not all of them but ...
