Royal Lady I'd stop fannying about with pretty formations and go with 4-4-2. I'd dump my Big Book of Soccer Tactics in favour of speaking to my coaching staff and, if necessary, asking JM and Hammond for a more experienced bloke to come in and takeover some of the coaching. I'd be slightly more measured in what I say to the media and I wouldn't try and big up the fans when I know that the majority of them are mightily pizzed off.

So you'd play 4-4-2 like we have in the last 2 games anyway and have someone experienced coaching us like Frank Lampard Snr?

And how much coaching experience does Fat Fwanks Daddy actually got?

Quite a lot actually, he coached at West Ham for years and years. It was around the time they started producing the likes of Joe Cole, Lampard Jnr, Michael Carrick, Glen Johnson, Jermain Defoe...you know, all those players who ended up playing for England? Not that you or Royal Lady would have any knowledge of this though given football supposedly begins and ends with Steve Coppell.

Ideal Royalee uses his tried and tested method.
Head in sand and all that. Basic psychology, his ego will not allow him to accept reality, so instead he refuses to accept it and claims reality is what he thinks it is.

Fact remains, Rodgers deploys irratic team selection, makes horrendous tactical decisions both before and during matches, and does not seem like he learns anything from his continuous tinkering.
If anything we appear to be getting worse, Bertrand was all over the place except for where he should have been as a defender.

Head in the sand? I'm actually seeing improvement in performance, we just need consistency. That's a lot less head burying than giving up and wanting a manager sacked after 8 games of dodgy form when the previous manager left after 3 times that on the same form.

Blimey a post from you I agree with Royalee, sacking the manager now or soon will not help where we are at this point in time.

It is truely head in the sand to believe that is the best option.

Though you figures re the last manager are wrong.

Seven years as assistant manager to Harry Redknapp according to wiki:-

Anyone got any ideas what he did between 2001-8? I know his missus was seriously ill, so maybe he took a break?

Just to show it, 8 games, 6 pts, thats .75 pts a game.

SC last 24 league games 34 pts, thats 1.42pts a game.

I'm not convinced by Rodgers backroom staff either to be honest, but I'm not I know why!

Lampard was in and around West Ham for a long with with Harry, but I've no idea if he's considered to be a decent coach or if he's having much to do with the players on a regular basis.

As for Rodgers tactics I don't see a hell of a lot wrong with them. We don't have the wingers to play a traditional style 4-4-2, Coppell proved that over the last 2 seasons. We do have some pretty decent technical midfielders though and developing a system that gets the best out of them seems to the best way forward at the moment, esepcially considering the budget constraints that now seem to have been enforced and Rodgers approach in the transfer market.

I'd like to have seen Henry given a chance as I think he has that something about him, but unless we've got the players to make the 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 systems work it looks unlikely he'll be involved.

I don't think his role is as a coach anyway, is it? He's a consultant, or somesuch. He did explain his role in the summer, but it seemed quite vague - but if it's on a needs-must basis, you'd hope he's getting his hands a bit dirty at the moment. His experience could be invaluable. Having said that, my Hornets-supporting mate seemed to think he spent most of his time watching Lampard Junior when he was with BR at Watford, but he might be exaggerating somewhat.

lol, me too. I've beefed about Lampard a bit recently but i'm not entirely sure what it is I don't like about him. Just not sure what he does I suppose.

For the record, Frank Senior's role has been described to me as "players' mentor" - so its not a coaching role as such - he is there and available to help players on an individual basis with specific areas of their play and their technique as required, as well as giving them the benefit of his experience on all aspects of the game and being a player.

Always thought that when he had the job at West Ham it was because of being an ex player, nothing else, does he have coaching badges??

From Daily Mail

Lampard said: 'I’ve got to know Brendan while he was at Chelsea and he’s a good man. About eight months ago he asked me if I would put on about a dozen training sessions with the reserves at Chelsea and I was happy to oblige. It went well then and now he’s asked me to come in and help him at Watford.

Any thoughts about the backroom staff Dirkers?

I want to add some rationality to my currently irrational suspicions.

TBH I don't know enough about them yet and haven't met them to be able to give an objective assessment. But I do know that Br is far more hands-on than SC ever was - SC hardly ever talked to the players on a one-to-one basis but BR does that a lot.

I'm also not sure how the coaches are organised - with Wally & Dill it was clear that Wally did the defence and Dill the attack/midfield. I've not heard of such clear demarcation lines these days (having said that, I've not heard that its not like that...)

Lampard SNR was there to tell Harry what a good job he was doing.

Rightly or wrongly he's here for his contacts rather than coaching ability.

That's a bit disingenuous, innit? Playing 4 central midfielders in diamond is a long way from the traditional 4-4-2 with wingers that you know full well she was referring to.

Sadly, Royalee has a habit of completely blanking posts the show him for the idiot, and in this instance, bigot he clearly is. See the "next six games" thread for another example.

I doubt he would have tried on such a feeble argument against a male poster

TBM So Rodgers doesn't know his strongest team yet - do you?
The loan window is open - who would you bring in (realistically)?
What formation would you play?
What style of football would you play?

Lots of people are moaning about Rodgers on here, but in all honestly what would you do - if you were manager?

Go back to basics, 4-4-2.
It doesn't matter if you pick the best players or not as long as you have a settled side who can learn to play with each other.

 Belittling your other half? I never resorted to sexism. I don't care if I'm debating a point with a male or female poster - you and RL are both as reactionary and pathetic as each other.

So, ignoring the bullshit, are you seriously suggesting we played a conventional 4 4 2 on Saturday?

We played the best 4-4-2 we could have done with the players available. McAnuff was still injured, Kebe is shit as he demonstrated when he came on and missed a sitter to add to his growing collection and I think Robson-Kanu has a knock. It certainly worked first half as we tore them apart, we just switched off defensively second half.
