FiNeRaIn Get him in, 1 million + 15k a week wages. Done deal, absolutely no excuses.

We're making a champions push this season.

Are you offering the money yourself?

I always love the I don't see you digging into your own pockets to help argument against anyone having the temerity to suggest that RFC push the boat out a little bit and sign some proven quality, as if FineRain somehow has the money to invest in the club but chooses not to. The argument that we cannot possibly afford his wages is somewhat bogus as well - what were we paying him since January, magic beans?

I can counter that with the fact that the wages we paid then were for the shorter term (i.e. 6 months) and easily budgetable. But when we've signed him permanently, he's likely to want a contract that's a bit longer than that, prolly 2-3 years, which is prolly harder to budget as you're not able to see further than a year, finance-wise.

Reading certainly have pushed the boat out in years gone by, but these are harder times and Reading need to be careful with their money. Do you want to see Reading go to the wall?

Ooh yes please. That'd really give me something to moan about.

Joking aside, I fail to see how one quality signing like Zurab is really going to see us go to the wall and no one is asking for a Peter Ridsdale-style transfer orgy. I think we need a bit more quality up front as well, but if we had Zurab helping to keep them out at the one end we might be able to get by with the likes of Long and Rasiak tripping over the ball at the other end.

Plus Griffin of course, and then as you say a quality forward

So that one signing quaickly becomes 3, those £15k weekly wages become £45k (That's £2.5 million a year, without taking into account bonuses and all the employer costs)

Easy when it's not your money and we have no idea what the realistic figures are.

I'd love us to bring in half a dozen top class players, but I suspect McD and SJM are sat round saying 'Nah, let's just not bother'

FiNeRaIn Realistic signing, i'll LOL when he goes to forest or someone we should be finish above as they show the ambition to sign him.

Why should we finish above Forest? They finished 6 places higher than us in 09/10.

Well the wages arguement isn't bogus - who says we've been paying all his wages - loan deals are often agreed whereby the parent club still covers a proportion or indeed all the players wages as getting them out playing either gets them fit or in the shop window.

Wish we'd released Ingimarsson and Gunnarsson, probably could have afford Zurab with the money saved on those two.

Thames Hello,

I was one of 15,000 odd fans very impressed with not only the performances but the attitude of Georgian Loanee Zurab Khiznashvilli.

Not only that, has has publicly stated he wants to come back to the Madejski Stadium to play for Reading FC! How many footballers have an attitude like that in this day and age?

Unfortunatley, Blackburn want around 1,000,000 of the queens pounds for him and it appears that as a club we can't afford to splash that kind of cash.

I am seriously considering registering with a donation website or setting up a bank account for the "Zurab Fund".

5000 Reading fans donating £200 each = Zurab

10000 Reading fans donating £100 = Zurab

Zurab = Promotion Challenge next season.

Who would be interested in contributing to this cause? I am happy to arrange this all in my spare time if I feel I have the support to make it worthwhile.

This is quite a telling thread. Some big mouths slag off Sir John for not throwing endless amounts of his hard earned at buying new players, yet resent parting with a couple of quid of their own cash for the same cause. says it all really.

No it doesn't tell anything. We don't own the club and we wouldn't own the player. (oh and I am a believer in the way Madejski runs this club - i.e. not putting in his own money).

Surely if this happened, should we then sell him, we would get our money back?

Maybe he'll double in price, then we'll all make a profit.
