PEARCEY
rg6royal We now have 5.5 million to spend...So lets spend it!

Absolutely. We need a striker who is proven at this level.
I am very peed off that Kitson has departed to a club who I feel will be back in the Championship ten short months from now. What will Dave do then?

make us some more money when he moves again!

We don't have £5.5 million at all. we had money to bloody spend anyway!!

we agreed a package with Cambridge earlier in the week which must of been for about 400k (ish)

Plus they seem to think initial fee is nowhere near the headline figure.

howser alright so some of the signings being made by our champioship rivals might be to say the least a bit suspect at least they are trying to win over the confidence of thier supporters for the coming season,

Yeah, if only we could go out and sign somebody crap for loads of money to keep the dumbass supporters happy. Jeez Louise!!!!

Sad to see Kitson go. Is a rare breed of footballer where he is tall, yet better on the floor than in the air. He was along with Shorey and Marek our most creative player and kept us fighting for survival as long as we did, without him we would have been long gone IMO, especially in early season.

However, 5.5 million is a good deal, fair play to Hammond who negotiated that price, i have zero confidence in anything he does / says but he has got us a good price. As has been said he is rather injury prone and if Kitson had said he wanted to leave (which has been reported) then we had to let him leave as he can be disruptive. TBH i don't think it is a good move for Kitson, he does not play well in 4-5-1 which is what it will be alot of the time and does not play his best with hoof ball which stoke seem to be specialist in. But he is not our player any more so i don't care.

The 5.5million however is only a good deal if it is reinvested, it is a rubbish deal is we sell one of our best players for a pile of money in the bank. I don't believe we will get a good replacement, from Coppell's comments about staking a claim and the fact he sent Lita out on loan despite us only having 3 other strikers in the heat of the relegation battle. As Ferguson said you can never have to many strikers. I wouldn't be surprised if an average striker came in to sit on the bench/ provide competition for long. But i stand to be proved wrong, if for example we sign Ben Watson/ Olofinjana (sp?) and Rob Hulse. Add to the fact Kits was one of the top earners and there should be enough wages along with Little , Oster, Stack, Etc to fund these players.

RoyalBlue On the other hand we might just blow it on some more who turn out to be like Fae!

Can you not take a positive look at things for once in your (what appears to me as if must have been) miserable life? Surely we've had enough success in recent years for there to be some vestige of positivity left somewhere in your being?

I hope Cambridge get a good deal out of this. I really do.

At Reading Kitson has shown players in our non-league ranks that you can make it. As well as attracting huge transfer fees...

Who was the Cambridge manager that plucked Kitson from Sainsbury's?

the only player you had a 'link' with? i think that kits talked allot of crap, and that tended to detracted from his ability on the pitch on occasion. the fa cup thing sticks in the mind and weve covered that topic to death round here. lets just draw a line under it. hes a merc, hes gone for the cash to go and have another relegation scrap.

all the best dave, thanks for the goal, or two.

i want trevor morely back.

SymonsO Lita, Long and Doyle. I think there is a fair chance that one of those will leave, if they do the 5.5 for Dave begins to look like an awful piece of business.

How can it be an awful piece of business when the player didn't want be here? £5.5m for a player who wanted to go is terrific business whatever way you look at it.

Gotta be strong. I can get through this.

The problem belies in the fact that unless you are totally blinkered and deluded, and dare I say, not sensible or realstic, it is painfully obvious to all that the club will not release the funds to invest into the team. You may say money does not guarantee success and cite the examples such as Kevin Doyle, however spending more generally improves your chances of getting better players.

Kitson was on balance the best player we've had in the last 10 years - full of shit maybe but that made him a cut above the usual tedious footballing robot.

Really f*cked off about the message this is sending out, what with the chairman constantly w*nking on about selling the club and Coppell looking increasingly like a one trick pony (good trick but that was 3 seasons ago)

The team has been in decline for well over a year and he's done f*ck all about it. This will make us a much poorer side.

I actually have given up believing he will invest any money wisely in the team.

I dare say many players, including a lot of ours, would like to play in the Premiership if given the opportunity. Doesn't necessarily mean it would be 'terrific business' for us to let them go.

Big Ern, the Kitson money will be reinvested in the team. If it is not I will admit to naivety of the highest level possible and offer myself up for whatever level of verbal flagellation is deemed appropriate by your good self.

I'm off to the pub now where I will of course be standing the corner of our club against Chelsea, Man Utd, Fulham, Arsenal and Liverpool fans, every one of whom, whilst enjoying a bit of pisstake, have far far more admiration and respect for Reading FC than many of the fans who have contributed to this thread.

Ain't that just the weirdest thing?
