Royal Lady So what exactly was the "big transfer news" that the papers were going to be reporting today?

And more to the point, why is TMD so bothered who we do or don't sign? :|

As pointed out in several places around the board, it's that we could make a move for Billy Sharp.
Also on the Daily Fail website, as you might expect...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... Sharp.html

Massive news then.

Are you permanently drunk at the moment?

Silver Fox Good point Jay, it's probably more like just over 48%, thus completely invalidating Dave's post

TheMaraudingDog Was listening to radio berks this morning they had some Russian on who knew this take over family well and thought the club has just been bought as a toy and so that the family can increase their status.

Worrying.

not quite what was said TMD

the opint alluded to on the radio was that if a russian wants to make money, they will do that in russia and that investing in a football club is not seen as a profit making scenario. no mention of toys etc etc

id rather that than someone just coming in to take a profit out of the club tbf

??

They may pump money in, get players obviously wages then jump ship leaving you in the shit.

they may. hence why im only cautiously optimistic at the moment until we see further details.

but your post was saying they only came in to increase profile and have a toy
and i still think thats better than coming in to make a profit out of a football club.

either way we dont really know what they are doing, or why right now

@ cmonurz

tomrfcurz The Daily Mail tomorrow running a 'big transfer story' on RFC

Does Billy Sharp REALLY constitute a "big transfer story" then? :|

If that comment makes me "permanently drunk" so be it.

A big story, to me, would involve a much more well known player. Still, you make your little putdowns. Shows you da man.

Its ok RL, its not like Sharp has been one of the most successful strikers in the league we currently play in for the last couple of years.

it's big for the Championship, no? and surely this is precisely the kind of sign that makes this deal appear to be a decent one. going out and immediately signing up players who would be asking for £20k+ a week would worry the shit out of me in terms of sustainability.

sharp is more than decent evidence to suggest we can buy above our previous thresholds

What about someone buying a football club without investing a penny (or indeed, a dime) of their own money in so doing, and by financing the purchase of that football club by borrowing hundreds of millions using that club as collateral, saddling the club with massive debts that means they have to sell star players simply to pay the interest on those borrowings.......

....now that IS worrying!

Indeed. but we all know that and this thread isn't about united.

What exactly does this have to do with Real Madrid's feeder club?

Sharp would be the exact sort of striker to ideally come in during THIS window, we need someone who has the upmost chance of geling straight into the team and also the league itself which he knows inside out

Saunders says Sharp will not be leaving this window, which is good for Rovers. Turned down Leicester.

Sharp and Rhodes, now there would be a coup!!

If Sharp's release fee clause (£1.85M has been widely mooted) is met and the player agrees terms then Saunders has no choice in the matter.

Maybe not, but Sharp himself has said he is going nowhere. That is why Saunders has come out and said the same.

Ah well, we'll just have to go for Tevez instead then. I assume he's second choice - it's only sensible really.

If Nicky Hammond is doing the [player] negotiating then we wont have to worry - like getting blood out of stone!
