"Birmingham City’s relegation on the same day was marred by threats of resignation from David Gold and David Sullivan, the co-owners, after they had been verbally abused during and after the 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at St Andrew’s. In contrast, Coppell — as well as Madejski — have received nothing but encouragement."

Thanks for posting the Beeb footage on YouTube.

Just watched it down here in Oz and, like many others, it makes me proud to be a reading fan.

Top effort chaps. And thanks for doing something practical and tangible. Here's hoping it works

As ever i have managed to avoid most of the photo's, though the EP did finally get told who started the ball rolling and came and had a chat.

Credit to each and everyone that turned up, there were no real organisers, just a spontaneous outburst of feelings.

Has to go down with Party after Peterborough and Pants Day in the history of RFC.

Next event??? Murts Testimonial match, there will be some tears, and while it is a long way away I think that the club should make the North Stand the singing area for the game, it is time to get all the singers and atmosphere creators in one stand. Might mean a few people standing up though.

I skipped from page 43 to 49.. so I dunno what happened, but according to the Reading Post... IT WORKEDD!!! He's staying, however this hasn't been officially announced so don't get your hopes up! Apparently the fans swayed him to stay

DISCLAIMER :P : I don't know if this is true or not and only read a part of the article as i was meant to be delivering papers and this wasn't even on my round.. I'll try and get it on my way to school though...

me and crossie spotted a "typo" on a sign

"coppell are god"

Was gonna give it the old "our, Yours Herr Lipp" but i think it wouldve been frowned upon.

And,

Hear hear!

it was "Coppell Is Are King"

Whoever did that is lucky i didn't catch them

It was my sister's sign.

The 17 Bus damn missed that

It'll be on again in about 20 minutes, then again in 40, and again in 60......

Great turn out last night, if thats your thing. Well done for getting so many there at such short notice.

Not sure I agree it was a good idea, as I think if there is any doubt in his mind about carrying on then he should just walk, but at least he knows that the geeks of Reading still love him. :D

He’s staying!
By Nick Ive
14/ 5/2008
Fan power looks as though it has persuaded Steve Coppell to stay on as Reading Football Club manager.

The boss is taking a few days to decide his future following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

But he has been touched by the loyal Royals’ “unique” supporters and dropped the strongest hint yet that he will be at the helm next season to try to mastermind Reading’s promotion back to the top flight.

Fans even set up a “Save Our Steve” group on networking site Facebook and scores of people turned up at the boss’s car park space outside the stadium yesterday to show their support.

The backing of Royals’ supporters has had a big impact on Coppell. He told the Post: “I was touched by the reception I had after the Derby game on Sunday.

“That wouldn’t have happened at any other club. They are unique and their response does have a bearing on my future.”

When told of the Facebook campaign Coppell joked: “Just as well it isn’t p***ing it down because there wouldn’t have been many there and I hope they know I drive a small car so they won’t fit many people in there!

“I can’t be there because my son is doing his GCSEs and I’m having dinner with him, but it is a lovely thought and sums up Reading fans.”

The EPo article better be correct. Until Coppell actually confirms it himself then i won't believe it.

As one who couldn’t make it, can I say to everyone who turned out: congratulations. What you did was remarkable and heartening.

I'm proud of you all, if disappointed at how ugly many of you are in real life.

I still have nightmares about the "McGhee: I'm Staying" headline from 1994.
