The fact remains, though, that he was given a torrid time by Lloyd Dyer, taken to the cleaners on more than one occasion by the Palace left winger, was reasonably solid at Millwall, and was nowhere to be seen for Middlesbrough's first half goals last week. Patronisingly, his application is always second to very very few, but when it comes to the crunch he isn't good enough. As soon as Griffin is fit again, Cummings should make way.

I think you're being a little harsh on him there Handbags. Against Leicester he played his first game in nearly a year and out of position.

He's one of the new breed of RBs ala Glen Johnson. He's main threat is attacking from deep, something we saw very little of last year. As his confidence increases, this will get only get better and more effective. The defensive side of his game clearly still needs work but lets not forget that he's still young and very inexperienced. In a position as technical as full back you need games to improve and I think we're seeing that.

One for the future and I hope he will prove to be the long term option for us

I thought he and Kebe have a good little partnership going. The kid is doing well at the moment. With him growing in confidence, Kebe won't have to track back so much. This will be win win situation with Kebe grilling LB's for fun and Cummings doing his defensive duties. Only now for BMcD to do something with Marcus "I'm a quality LB" Williams. Either do something useful mate, or do one.

Quite excellent again last night

My MoM. He was everywhere. His quality was summed up by the crunchingly well timed tackle on the edge of our D in the final few minutes to deny a clear run on goal. Slight mistime and it was a free-kick right in front of goal, or the player skipped over him to be one on one. As it was he took man and ball and came out of the tackle with the ball under control.

Last year I had my doubts but I can now see why BR thought that he had it. What he has needed was a touch of confidence and some strong guidance. Both seem to be there now.
