No-one really.

I guess Keown and Ferdinand went down in my estimations after being utter pony in their short times at the club. Same goes for Houghton.

Mostly there are just the odd pantomime villain to faintly dislike these days, or the odd player that I don't care much for.

Shorey lost a lot of my respect the way he got too big for his boots. SHunt never really had a great deal of my respect in the first place. Don't like Lita much.

Ian Royal Shorey

I always felt a bit sorry for Shorey after a) finding out who is gf (now wife) was, and then b) watching her work her way through her work colleagues.

I like to see McGhee doing well, although obviously I'll be jeering him along with everyone when he next visits us.

Probably Bullivant though - what a complete loser.

Sort of agree about Bullivant, but I still blame some of the players that year for appearing not to care and just sleepwalking to relegation without so much as putting up a fight--players like Asaba, Morley, Swales, Houghton going through the motions.

It still rankles with me that Bullivant and that team thought we'd somehow earned the right to be in that division: you never do, and you will drop out of it like a stone if you have no heart in the team.

Somehow Mark McGhee's departure upset me much more than Pardew's. McGhee's Aberdeen team losing again tonight means he is on the way out - according to the press at least. I shall shed no tears for him.

+1
Both he and Pards had short lived careres in the Prem which shows the grass is not always greener. In fairnes to Pards he has always been very dignified when he has come back despite all the stick he got. As for FSB you wonder where he goes from here, next stop Soccer Saturday.

I have no axe to grind about McGhee or Pardew whatsoever.
Both these men left the club in a better place than they found it.
IMHO, when McGhee was here, we had the finest ever Reading side to watch, and I include any side since.

I think for the way they both left - McGhee and Pardew will always remain as grudge figures.

I definately don't hate Bullivant - I felt really sorry for him and it was a releif when he left.

^That. Life's too short and Pardew and McGhee both did an excellent job when they were here so should really be celebrated, not reviled

The Club means a hell of a lot to me RwC, just find it odd that some still hold a grudge for things that happened years ago. Yes, we were all disappointed when they both sh*t on us, but they both contributed hugely to the increase in success we've enjoyed over those last 15 years. Anyone who can't see that is either a complete numpty or a Johnny-come-lately supporter who wasn't here during the the REALLY sh*t times.

I think its more pantomime than a genuine grudge. Warnock, Pardew and McGhee will always get stick at Reading, but I don't think there's genuine hard feelings, I think it's a lot of people following the crowd and just joining in.

Michael Meaker - the make-weight of the Simon Osbourn to QPR transfer.
The most inept footballer I've ever seen in a Reading shirt. A winger(!) that could not beat a fullback.

I enjoyed watching his rapid demise into a non-league player, a level he should never have left.

Also Carl Asaba. He scored goals everywhere else he played except Reading. He had all the attributes to be a top player at a time we were crying out for a decent number 9 but he just didn't have the heart for it.

I always liked Asaba - Thought he was a great player in a bad team at the time. The one game we actually played well that season (Sunderland at home), he had a blinder - Tore them apart and notched a couple IIRC.

Hugo - I don't think I fall into either category. Nowadays I'm a confirmed overseas plastic. There is no doubt in my mind that both leaving hindered our progress - despite what they did when they were here. I really don't know why I should be bothered about any player or manager wanting to better themselves by leaving my club.

No don't get me wrong - I understand why they both went. Doesn't mean I was happy at the time or happy now.

I thought Asaba was overrated, and his career never went anywhere much after he left us. He had some great moves, and when they worked, it was impressive. But watching him over a number of games, I came to the conclusion that his slick turns and knock-ons were pre-recorded--in other words, they were moves he had perfected in practice but which he carried out on autopilot, regardless of the positions of the players around him, on either side. So he'd often rise majestically and head the ball down elegantly to no one, or turn beautifully--slap bang into a defender. To be fair to him (and also to Morley), fitness was an issue with him in that baffling season.

Lame though Bullivant was, I really do resent the players more for that season. They did well in the first half of the season, so they have to ask themselves why they let their standards plummet. I think mid-table complacency set in--and they couldn't reorient their mindset after they quickly lost several straight games and found themselves in a relegation battle. All our other relegations I could take, but not that one. It was like three months of going to funerals on a Saturday afternoon.
