FA Cup team for Stevenage

by andrew1957 » 24 Jan 2011 12:15

I think we have an interesting dilemma on Saturday. A few days later we have Cardiff and then QPR so risking all our key players in the cup game will be a risk.

Long in particular got absolutely battered on Saturday and I would like to see him rested BUT if Hunt is not fit - the other strikers we have available would be Church and Bignall - everyone else is cup tied including even Bell-Baggie. The only other choice would be to put R-K up front as he has played there before. I would also be tempted to rest Kebe.

Morrison is also cup tied.

So if Hunt is unfit my team would be:

Fed
Griffin
Mills
Pearce
Harte
McAnuff
Legs
Karacan
Antonio
Church
R-K or Bignall

Subs
McCarthy
Ingi
Cummings
Kebe
Bignall or R-K
Howard
Tabb

McD does seem to take the cup pretty seriously, so I would not be surprised to see Long start - but I agree maybe he needs a rest and should be on the bench. Church will def start as he needs some game time. I would like to see Antonio - its starting to annoy me that HRK keeps getting the nod ahead of him. I think Hunt is still injured

I would like to see

Cummings
Pearce
Zurab
Harte
McAnuff
Karacan
Tabb
Antonio
Church
Long /Manset

Manset cup-tied, plus can we really survive 90 mins without a goalie?

Agree at least 1 of Antonio/HRK should start, and presume Church will

With Shane I guess it depends. He's a tough guy so may be fine,
and I think he thrives on playing, but I'd not play him through
any injury. I wonder if we'll, as you say, give some fringe players
a go. Tabb in for Karacan would be good, maybe give Ingi 60 minutes,
and maybe give Cummings a run

But we are trying to second guess McDermott and that's not easy.

Get through this round and it could be a pay-day away at Old Trafford. He might go for his strongest team yet again.

I think we'll play a full strength side.

Snowball maybe give Ingi 60 minutes,

Why only 60 minutes? He played the full 90 at Doncaster with no ill effect..........

Because, like Tabb, he got through one game on adrenaline. He even said so

Can't see him making major changes and any that are made will be beacuse they're carrying knocks.

That said, about time Harte and Kebe got some time off

Would like to see Long rested and play Antonio down the middle.

Also Tabb,Howard or even Bryn may need some game time as one of them will have to replace Mikele for QPR.

Agree that it's only fair to give Antonio a decent chance - Long on the bench as an impact sub, maybe?

It'll be two weeks later. That's a pretty long rest to play against a League Two side.

I'd like the team to be something along the lines of:
Federici/ Anderson

Cummings
Pearce
Ingimarsson
Armstrong

Robson-Kanu
Tabb
Karacan
McAnuff

Church
Long/ Hunt

Bench: Federici/ Anderson, Harte, Karacan, Kebe, Long/ Hunt (Presumably it's still a limit of five in the cup? If not stick Antonio and someone else on there.)

I would go for:

Andersen

Cummings
Pearce
Ingimarsson
Williams

Robson-Kanu
Tabb
Howard
Antonio

Church
Hunt

Subs

Locke
Armstrong
Long
Leigertwood
Kebe

We have enough keepers at this club that we should be able to give Feds a rest for the weekend, and allow Locke or McCarthy to warm the bench. Similarly if Williams can't get a start in a game like this then there's not much hope for him.

Elwood will get his break for QPR game, so even more reason to play him, but maybe give Tabb 30 mins for Karacan if we can. Time to give Cummings another game to let him know his last performance wasn't wasted and also as always, time to drop Harte! If Hunt is injured, then Antonio and HRK would have to be striker cover from bench as Bignall isn't good enough and should be sold or loaned out IMHO.

Pick a strong team, get ahead and then rest Long, Kebe and jem, rather than start weaker and bring them on if needed.

Fed

Cummings
Mills
Pearce
Armstrong

Kebe
Jem
Elwood
McAnuff

Long
Church

Subs
Andersen
Griffin
Inga
Tabb
HRK
Antonio
Hunt (or Howard if Hunt not fit)

I'd start with the Beast and Long up front.

Thought Church was very poor on Saturday.
