Khizanishvili - should we sign him?

by TBM » 02 Mar 2011 11:29

Played well last night and with Ivar struggling and "getting on a bit" we need a decent centre half.

Seems he wont be offered a new deal at Blackburn, so should we offer him a deal in the summer?

Yes - I'd give him a 2 year deal if I was in charge.

Yes. He is a quality defender, and is superb on the ball.

Of course we should sign him.

If we can afford him and if he'll come after being left out of the side all season.

I think Mills and Khiz are the best CB's that we got. We need the lad. If we are ambitious and planning to go upwards then Khiz is someone we need.

I'd like to sign him, but if we have Mills, Pearce and Morrisson, plus Griff/Harte who can play there and other younger players then I don't know how we'll afford International calibre wages. I imagine keeping Ivar as a 4th choice would be far cheaper and have a greater 'dressing room impact'

I realise that the above isn't the best 'footballing' choice but its the one that makes more sense to the club overall.

I've said before that I think Khiz can only be good for Mills in terms of nuturing him and supporting him. PLEASE sign him.

Will he want to come here? To possibly sit on the bench for 2 more seasons?

I guess it will depend on how much game time he will get for the rest of the season.

Mills, Pearce, Kish(if signed), Morrison - liking the center back options for next year.

he will be on the team sheet now. his last game he was quite poor , then he got injured- its not really a massive surprise is it.

but for sure- give him a contract. the boy is class imo, and is just what we need with the demise of ivar/possible loss or old age of harte/bryn

Khiz & Pearce with some full backs with a bit of pace (Bertrand & Cummings) would be top banana. And if Mills can pull his finger out and play to something close to his potential like last night then he'd also make an excellent partner for Khiz.

Would love us to sign him but it completely depends what Ingimarsson decides to do contract wise I think

Agreed. We look a lot more composed with Kish at the back.

not exactly sure how that has improved this season

Because he won't be able to stay on at Blackburn on his current wage when his contract expires?

No brained if the wages are within our pay structure. Last showed how stupid Mcdermott has been leaving him on the bench the last 4 or 5 games. He's our best CB.

It really depends on the remaining matches of the season.

If Khiz is kept out of the team by Mills and Pearce, which was the case, then there is no point in signing him (and he probably wouldn't want to anyway).
In that scenario I would offer Ivar another year, very much as 4th choice centre back, helping Morrison's development.

If however Khiz has a good run in the side now and becomes 1st choice then I would sign him and bye - bye Ivar.

Add to that some of the highly-rated young defenders coming through the academy.

Jack Mills, Angus McDonald.

I'd sign him up but I'm not sure McDermott will. He doesn't seem to trust him for some reason and although he brought him here in the first place he hasn't played him that much.

Presuming his wages would be at the top end of our wages I'm not sure we'd pay that kind of money for a player who doesn't become a 'first name of the teamsheet'.

He's versatile and composed so for me it would be a no-brainer and he'd be in my strongest 11 too. I'm not sure he is the perfect partner for Mills though. His weakness is he's sometimes a bit casual or complacent, that might help to calm Mills down at times but I think it might also bring out the billy big time in Mills.

Kishanishvili, Mills, Pearce and Morison would be a decent set of centre backs though, even if none of them are blessed with much pace.

No
4th choice at the moment and has never been in the first-choice pairing in over a year at the club.
His career seems on the way down, and I don't imagine a two-year contract here will stop the slide.
