Another nostalgia thread

by RobRoyal » 03 Mar 2011 15:13

I'm in the mood to reminisce. What was the first Reading goal you ever saw - who scored it and how?

Mine was in late 1997. A Trevor Morley penalty, slapped characteristically down the middle of the goal, to settle a dull game with Stockport. For some reason that was enough to hook me in.

I can't remember the first goal I saw this season, let alone the first ever goal I saw.

Nostalgia is not what it used to be

Trevor, I think, Plymouth (a) 85.

Oh, and I'm all for forgetting the match as soon as I've left the ground, but that was one of the more memorable games...

I actually can't remember. First game I know I was at was Hull City, first game of season.

But I'm sure I went to one or two games in 90-91 season, plus an England game at Wembley that year.

Pat Terry v Oxford 1968ish. Shot from around the penalty spot through a crowded penalty area.

Stuart Lovell vs Wolves in 97, then he scored the winner a few minutes later which guarenteed survival!

Only game I missed all season - I was at Leeds v Blackburn that day when Blackburn were on their title charge. 1-1 with Colin Hendry and Brian Deane the goalscorers.

Impossible to remember; can't even remember my first game--too young. I do remember Dougie Webb scoring in blue and white; after that all my first memories are of us playing in pale blue. Not sure when we changed from one strip to the other, but I was small.

Was Bev's penalty our first goal in the Simod final? I can remember the scorers, but not the order!

My first game was v Carlisle, or was it Northamption back in the late 70's, either way they were 5.1 and 4.1 results, and no I can't remember the scorers, the order, or the dates. But I do remember Carlisle had a certain Peter Beardsley in their squad that day (whenever it was)!

If I had to put money on it I would say it was Kearns. Or was it Bowman, or possibly Hetzke? Maybe even Williams or Peters, possibly Hicks. Oh I give up, where are my slippers.....

Douggie Webb.

Shame grandson Josh never made it or I could boast seeing 3 generations of Webbs scoring for Reading.
