They don't rate us........

by Gordons Cumming » 21 Mar 2011 01:53

..............and that's good.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 425528.stm

Not a mention. That's enough to motivate the boys............and a few other teams just outside the play-off places.

Going to be an interesting few weeks coming up.

Well that was written on Thursday, when we were in 10th(ish).

I don't think many people thought we would win and the 6 teams above us would all lose :)

Its a pointless article. It tells us nothing. Millwall are mentioned. We are ignored. Lol at that.
All good. Best to be quietly moving up the table.

Jeff Stelling was bigging us up on Soccer Saturday yesterday once we got into the lead.

The BBC has not even considered us for a live game this seaon. By the end of the season they will have shown QPR twice, Leeds twice and Cardiff 3 times. Out of 10 live games. Not that it worries me, I like the fact we are under the radar!

Indeed. I don't take much interest in what many so called football experts have to say. Not surprised by Jeff Stelling rating us. He's a bit brighter than most of them and knows his stuff.

Just out of interest, have we been live on the BBC yet (championship)?

Not this season. We were last year at Newcastle.

I swear they've only shown the Cardiff-Swansea derbies and the Forest-Derby derbies?

I thought so. I was there so didn't see the coverage myself, but was pretty sure that was BBC rather than Sky. I'll check.....

I watched the Newcastle game on the t'internet. I can't believe I would have done that if it was on the tv. Perhaps it was and I didn't realise it.

No, and don't expect to at any time soon. The BBC - the smug, self-congratulatory corporation that it is - only has time for football outside of the top flight if it has a certain cliche'd-history attached to it, hence why they will only cover Championship clubs from the big cities or towns with an attachment to a big name in football's past that they can fawn over. Provincial clubs like Reading are almost scorned and scoffed at the by the BBC; we have always been given appaling coverage by the corporation both locally and nationally (see the quite dreadful coverage on the local BBC television news over the years). I qualify this by offering in evidence one televised BBC fixture in our history (vs Manchester United [natch] in 2007) and one appearance on televised Match of the Day highlights in the 40 years the programme had been in existance pre our (no-doubt lamented) promotion in 2005.

So you agree with the article which rates Burnley and Millwall's chances?

It doesn't rate Millwall's chances at all - have you actually read it?

"One team who are not in automatic promotion contention but could play a part in shaping the race is Millwall - the Lions have already beaten QPR and Burnley, as well as holding Forest, and have Cardiff, Leeds and Swansea to play."

Burnley were 3 points above us when the piece was written.
