Back from the Game - Pompey

by LoyalRoyalFan » 02 Apr 2011 17:57

Decent performance.

Shane Long and Howard the two stand out performers. Maybe the people that slate Howard will finally realise what an important player he is.

 @ the person on the radio who said Robson Kanu was shocking.

^^^ He is

And Howard was frustratingly anonymous/useless up until his beautifully weighted through-ball for the pen. Grew into the game after that.

2 breakway goals masked the fact we had left long really isolated in that 4-5-1. Thankfully we got the goals and job done

A decent performance but one where lots of improvements need to be made. Gunnarsson was given the runaround by the over-rated but busy as f*ck David Nugent (£6.5 million? F*ck me...) up until the opener, and quite frankly we should have been at least two down before Long's pot-shot.

After the sending off (debatable one as to whether it was inside or outside the box) we were in control for long spells but you still felt that Pompey had something in them, and given their record in Reading over the years you wouldn't have bet against them spoiling the show.

Either way, whatever the outcome, whatever the press may say, I couldn't care less today. It is so, so nice to finally get one over that bunch of b*st*rds.

Saw the goals on SSN... didn't think to look at whether the pen was inside the box or not, but very harsh red... very little chance Long was making that ball before Ashdown got to it if he hadn't been fouled. Long going down on minimal contact again to win it though.

Few minutes remaining, the fans nearest to the East Stand start kicking off and run towards the barriers.

The police were all outside dealing with a separate incident.

To be honest, Ian, anyone who is saying things like "harsh red" and "harsh pen" and then not saying "I don't care, it's about time we got one over that shower of c*nts" needs to have a look at themselves :)

Gunnarsson closed off and broke down a few attacks and coped well in the second half. A massive help with some of those decisions but i'll take that any day. Pompey couldn't hit a barn door today, Kitson was possibly having an off day and his cute little flicks didn't come off. Funniest moment was the rugby scrum when it looked like 5 players all on the ground attempting to score/clear the ball. Sets us up ever so nicely for the run in. As for that penalty decision - a massive favour for us where Pompey could feel a tad aggrieved - but ho hum.

As for those sad little twats at the end of the match - grow up, take the beating on the pitch and keep it out of the stands.

Yet another win and clean sheet with Zurab in the team :) But yer I agree, would like to see Griffin and Pearce back in that side, thought Harte was actually decent today. And I have to admit Howard had the best game I've seen him play in, in a Reading shirt. Doesn't mean he wasn't rightly slated for his previous shocking performances though. He is much more effective in a 3-man central midfield as it gives him freedom to run about and create stuff

To be honest today was poor. We were bad and they were worse.
Still three points thanks very much.

For whatever reason we never really got going.
Jobi and Kebe  (Jobi a red card waiting to happen Good substitution)
Howard and Long were good, defence generally OK
Jem and Tabb did OK
McCarthy fluffed a few easy catches and made a couple of saves.

Both goals up the other end, looked like the first was a shot by long and mistake by Ashdown. Second what looked like a straight forward penalty from the North Stand as their defender took Long out.

I suppose sometimes you haver to grind out results and today was one of those days.

Pleased we beat the pikeys though as it seems years since we last did. Well over due result.

My MOM Howard.
Chump of the day Halford  (By the way thanks for the mill profit to whoever it was we sold him to.)
