SJM interview with BBC

by CayeneMatt » 10 May 2011 16:37

So in the interview he says ...

"If we don't make it to the promised land then things will have to change but that's the nature of the beast I'm afraid."

He's obviously talking about selling players, something most people are aware of, but it still makes you think 'Oh shit' when you hear it from the big man.

No pressure on the team to perform then ....

If we don't go up we will lose at least two of Long, Kebe and Federici - least that's what I'm expecting.

We would retain most of the squad though. Long and probably Kebe would be sold on and Kish and Leigterwood may not be signed but the likes of Federici, McCarthy, Cummings, Mills, Pearce,Harte, Karacan, Tabb, Howard(possibly) HRK, Manset, Hunt, Church, Taylor amongst others would stay. Plus there would be new signings.
We will still be competitive.

Folk need to try living in the real world, income next season if we are in this division is likely to be lower than this season, therefore the budget will be lower, simple economics.

There is no magic money coming in to the club from outside.

i always thought for those players its more about wanting to go elsewhere to further themselves, than JM needing to get shot of them for financial reasons, maybe its a bit of both

Ah, so more cloth cutting coming in the near future if we don't make it up now. Well we've been forewarned what will happen if we don't make it up this year, which is basically its been nice knowing you lads, thanks for the memories and good luck with your new teams. Selling off the young talent once they develop kinda takes the fun out of watching them develop.

I will be disappointed if we keep all our keepers - rather lose one of those than take hits further up the pitch.

I think Hamer's on his way. Feds is also a possibility but I'm not convinced a Premiership club will come in for him. They will for Long and Kebe(assuming we don't go up of course).

That whole interview tells us nothing we didn't already know.

Depressing stuff though.

Come on Sheikh Al-Bin Laden, come and put us out of our misery.

I don't find it depressing. It's reality and it's exactly the same as we've been living with for at least the last three seasons.

I'm not bothered either. We have a good number of young players who are holding their own. They will still be with the club next season.

Yes, the last three seasons have all depressed me as well.

With the sensible way the club has been run we have made the play-offs in two of the three seasons back at this level. Rather be us than Sheff Utd/Watford/Pompy and a good few others.

Surely we have kicked most of the debt after promotion into touch by now?

I know we're all expecting one or two better players to go if we stay down, and losing Long doesn't fuss me at all as he blows more cold than hot. Kebe would be a big loss, Federici going would be great as we have McCarthy, the better of the two waiting to come in. I can live with that. It's just the idea that budgets have to be cut even further that baffles me.

If not for McDermott doing an amazing job with the kids and a couple of clever buys/loans (not many managers would have achieved what he has with the resources at his disposal), that good fortune can't always continue, and if we cut yet more cloth we're playing a dangerous game in the long run. Eventrually your luck runs out, the kids aren't good enough, and your budget can't attract a Legertwood, Griffin or Khizanishvili.

Have to agree with this, it will continue to be the same until we have new ownership
