Tell you what would be nice - to see a team from West Berkshire in the premiership.

Welsh principality teams are three a penny. There's only one team in Royal Berkshire.

The Football League is a separate entity to the FA, and as the Premier League is administered by the FA, it's down to them whether they want you or not, not the football league.

Yep - except the Premier League isn't administered by the FA, it's a competition organiser, just like the FL is. So the FL is equal status to the FL (theoretically, at least - money talks.....) as they're both under the jurisdiction of the national association, the FA.

The FA did lend their name to the PL when it started, but that was just to reduce the power of their rivals the FL at the time. In what was a classic miscalculation, their bastard child soon outgrew them and the actual pretence of the PL being subservient to the FA was severed long ago.

I have also been told this. All the lads at the cricket club want Reading to win.

The Wales based clubs were allowed to join the English league due to there not being a league in Wales.

UEFA would not allow this today due to there being a league in Wales.

Personally, I can understand why the clubs based in Wales continue to be English league clubs as that's where the money and glory is, but personally I believe it would be better for the Welsh game if they were to transfer to the Welsh league. I don't see that happening mind you.

What used to irritate me was the Welsh teams playing in the English league yet still taking part in the Welsh Cup, which mean't they qualified for Europe. This was outlawed a good few years back.

What irritates me now is that players for the Welsh clubs have to go before the Welsh FA on disciplinary matters - Why? If the offence took place whilst playing in the English league then surely it's fair for all if the English FA deal with it, particularly if it's an incident between two players... ironically, you could get the situation where one player was English playing for a Welsh club then the Welsh FA would deal with it and if the other player was Welsh but playing for an English based club the English FA would deal with it. Well that's the way I interpret it, unless anyone knows different.

In all fairness that ended up working to our advantage. The fact that the Welsh FA were such pussies over the Cardiff thing wound up our players so much that we gave them a tonking as a result! See Ian Harte post match comments to Sky. Overall you are right tho.

If we go up we'd be the only team from WESSEX in the Premier League and we'd be the nearest PL team for everybody from Cornwall Devon Dorset Somerset, Hants, Wilts, Oxon (parts), Bucks (parts), Surrey (parts) - surely in economic, cultural and population terms a more impressive cathcment than Wales?

I've not heard a single person say that in real life - everyone I meet keeps saying how it would be a travesty if there was a Welsh team in the EPL.

Don't know if this has been mentioned in a previous thread, but I heard on TS that there will be no national anthem at the final as they 'dont want to disrespect the welsh fans'
