No Ambition

by Finch » 30 May 2011 20:48

Think a summer of 'Madejski out' is in order.

No doubt Long et al will be sold for huge sums and not re-invested.

Time for one of the Reading supporting rich arabs who loves the club dearly to come and get Reading into the top four. They're lining up don't you know.

LOLZ. Bit premature I think Finch. They're all still too busy blaming Phil Dowd. Give 'em a while and they'll be on to SJM though, just be patient.

Sorry dude.

When they watch the replays on the TV, then i suspect it'll be SJM getting the blame!

But not by you? In that case the fishing trip looks more likely than the prat - I apologise for pre-judging.

Not so sure about that. Specsavers did a 2 for 1 rose-tinted glasses deal.

I pick both, thank you.

Seriously, no rich benefactor will come in and take over; Reading live within their means and could end up like Sheff Utd if they over indulge. So far, SJM has the balance down to a fine art. It's just Phill Dowd which is preventing you from being back in the big time!

If the team's ambition is to stay in the Championship, and I am not saying it is but we'll see what happens over the summer, then we will struggle to remain in the Championship. So I disagree with the premise that there is no ambition, just a question of what our ambitions are. PL? Championship? A well run division 2 team? I cannot make that judgement until I see what transpires over the summer...

Have a core of a team for next season. With McD in charge no issues with relegation.

Are Swansea going to cope in the Premiership? On the face of it today 2 very honest but limited teams. Neither of which would have done little more than filling the fixture list.

Promotion via the playoff is an illusion. There were 2 better teams in the division lets not forget that.

Next year RFC as championship winners. :D

We are a self sufficient club nowadays with no issues of debts who for consecutive seasons have sold players for £5 million +.... who we have bought for a tiny percentage of that sale. We have just lost in the play off final.. if today had gone differently we would be a premier league team. I think the ambition is there... to be a sensibly run and competetive club, and i for one am contented with that until something fantastically better comes along

Many football clubs have serious financial issues. Other than the top clubs hard to see many clubs raising ticket prices without impacting attendances in the current climate. So much prefer to see RFC live within budget and continue to develope youth players.

Just waiting for the chairman to say, in about a month or so, that there is another financial black hole that needs to be covered and so the 6 million we got for Long, Federici, Kebe and Mills will not all be spent on team affairs.

I was posting something along this line on another thread as you were making your post here, lol. If he sells the players I don't see how there could be a black hole...the wages being paid to the rest of the squad aren't that high.

Frankly I'm surprised Mr Dowd is the hate figure. Reading were, very, very, very lucky not to be playing with 10 men for most of the match. Dowd's decision not to send our Georgian off would have been an appalling one to any neutrals watching.

you have to be sanguine about what happened. can't blame the ref. both stonewall pens, Kiz very lucky to stay on & arguably could have conceded another one. shocking errors, karacan ballwatching when dobbie scored 3rd. long never in the game. delivery from all those corners not good enough. in short, not enough players on their game on the day, but it is a limited team which did well to get into the playoffs and which would have needed major work to avoid an instant drop back if we had won.

People complain, but then QPR are complaining that their season tickets have increased massively to pay for being in the premiership. You have to decide what you want!
