No

McAnuff should keep it, he may not be a natural leader, but it would destroy his confidence if it was taken off him and would not be good for the team IMO

I've never agreed with the idea of a new player instantly becoming captain like Mills at Leicester, it doesn't say a lot about the players who have been there years.

Agree with this, it seems from the outset that Gorkss would be the most obvious choice now but that would be a big kick in the balls to McAnuff.
Can't see that happening at all.

Just because McAnuff doesn't yell in people's faces like Mills used to? I don't see any reason to take the captaincy away from him and give it to someone completely new to the side.

stupid thread, he is a great leader, can maybe help jobi with his leadership skills, for suggestions of him being captain the day he signs is ludicrous tbh, i always believe a player should be at a club at least 2 years for him to be captain as it shows they are commited and know the club and their surroundings like said above ^^

It's not a stupid thread - some agree, some don't.

I personally think having a natural leader and someone at centre half or as captain is quite important. We need him to organise things captain or not.

Jobi should understand and get over it. Pearce did after brendan made him captain.

He's intelligent, he's calm, he's experienced and he talks to the players through the game. He's at the heart of a lot of our best play, is a good ambassador of the club and is a respected pro.

As much as McAnuff doesn't for the mould of a ranting and raving intimidating rabble rouser of a captain that doesn't mean he isn't the best man for the job within the squad.

The bit on the pitch is, in my opinion, only a small part of being the captain and from what those close to the squad say he is one of the leading characters in the squad and is one of the big talkers and leaders. These were things being said last season long before he was up for the armband so it's not just polite spin in support of his captaincy.

McDermott may feel McAnuff fits better in his style of running things (a bit more considered than some) or that the squad needed a calming influence in the changing room after the lack of discipline that had crept in over the last couple of seasons (Mills' time as on pitch captain and Ingimarsson not having the influence he once had perhaps).

At times it might be of benefit to have a more demonstrative skipper on the pitch but we don't have that player in the squad so I think McAnuff looks and sounds like the best we have.
