Do we need to be relegated....?

by Big Foot » 10 Sep 2011 23:42

...to get ourselves better setup for a return to the Premiership?

The likes of Kebe who don't want to be here would leave.
The deadwood like Griffin, McAnuff etc would leave.
The youngsters like Church, HRK & Obita etc would flourish

Would also create a bit of momentum if we were able to come back up almost instantly - Norwich, Swansea, Brighton are all examples of bouncing back stronger

No.

But if it did happen we'd be that much closer to being able to renew our rivalry with Aldershot.

church didn't flourish in league 1 or 2 when on loan, so what makes you think he would with us?

league 1 is a horrible physical league that can be very hard to get out of. i don't want to go anywhere near it again, especially when madejski is running a tighter ship than he has to date. relegation would be an absolute disaster.

Yer...cause our days in league one hold so many happy memories!! Pants day ring a bell? Relying on signings like bas savage?
Relegation wouldn't equal a rebuild.. It would mean more cloth cutting!

In short it would be an effing disaster!!!

I don't ever recall us 'relying' on Bas Savage :|

Sometimes you have to take a step back to make a stride forward.

That and it'd mean some new opponents instead of the likes of boring Coventry, Derby, Watford etc

What age are you big foot? 23 or whatever? I can only assume you are too young to remember how shit league 1 was last time. Sure you get days like brentford on the last day of the season but you also get a whole heap of shit leading up to that.

Is this really a serious question?

You've got to wonder though when you see teams like Norwich and Saints doing so well now.

I reckon thats what our chairman wants, less wages to pay and know were still hit 16-17k fans every home game. We could probably just put out the kids and stay in league 1

It's not certain we would bounce back though, look at Bradford, and Sheff Wed.

I'd worry we are more like Charlton, they've have only just turned the corner but it's been pretty painful for them over the last few seasons.

How could being relegated possibly be beneficial??

What a stupid thread.

League 1 means
Less TV revenue
Lower home ticket sales
Lower away ticket sales
Lower merchandising revenue
Lower corporate hospitality
Shittier shirt sponsorship
All the better players go
Good youth players will get snapped up by better academies - why would they go to a League 1 club when they could go to a champ / prem academy instead

NO NO NO

Would be a fcukin disaster.

If the wage bill falls by more than the lost revenue, the "world class model" fans will be dancing in the streets.

Scary thought as to what team we'd have in League 1. There won't be any cloth left to cut.

For anyone who thinks we're in danger of going down, you can get a MASSIVE 20/1 with Stan James

I would suggest that if we lose next Saturday, putting us bottom of the league after home defeats to Barnsley, Watford and Doncaster, anything above evens will be massive.
