Selling club

Does it annoy you that Reading are a selling club?

Reading investing their time in money in a player and as soon as a club comes in with a decent offer - you just know he'll be off. Can you see this ever changing as it must be a bit disheartening for you guys? The only way it will change is long term success in the Premier league or a very wealthy owner takes over from JM.

As Adam Federici said in the Summer, Reading are a stepping stone club to bigger and better things.

Sadly football is a business now, not a sport........

BUT i would rather we had a club to watch, than go bust and fold

Doesn't it annoy you that Chelsea have spent over £1b on players and wages since Abramovich took over and you still can't buy a European Cup?

Can anyone name any club outside Spain that isn't a "selling club"?

What is the similarity between Chelsea and a 3 pin plug?

They are both totally useless in Europe..

As to Reading being a 'selling' club -- so what. I am very happy that we are able to develop more youngsters than we can employ as adult and get the financial benefit of that.

slightly annoyed by the sale of long and sig- since we never really got too much of the benefits from them

1 decent season each
but you cant argue with the prices sold for.

the rest have all gone at pretty much the right time

So selling Sonko, Kitson and others was a bad thing?

yeah £13m for two players who between them hadn't scored enough goals to get us promoted, I think we got the benefits

It is pretty upsetting to see players leave, but as long as there is a league above us, we are always going to be a stepping stone, just like any club outside the premier league.

There is no shame to being a club whose players are on their way up and are wanted by everbody.

Better than being a club which is a retirement home for convicts, cheaters, rapists and racists, on their way down.

Chelsea's scouting proceedure seems to be typing "footballer" into Google.

I don't think being in the top flight stops you being a stepping stone.

No Fixed Abode Can you see this ever changing?

It wasn't always like this so of course it won't always be. Reading never sold a player they wanted to keep for almost a decade until 2007 and many signigns were bankrolled by the extravagant white knight Sir John Madejski, who received a knighthood for his benevolence.

The reason for this of course is that we weren't a very good team until we won the Championship. Therefore we were looking to buy the players of others to improve our own team, not pay current crap players a lot of cash.

After 2006 we have been phenomenally successful compared to what came before. Only one season have we not been in contention for promotion/a European place since 2000 and that was our 2nd best season ever. After every successful season we will receive bids for players and need cash to bribe our successful team to stay put.

Therefore your question should really read,

No Fixed Abode Does it annoy you that Reading are successful every season?

To which my answer would be no.

Remind me how many times Real Madrid have reached the champions league final in the last 5 years compared to the club he left again...?

There's a difference to going onto better things and a personal preference/desire....
