Watford: Back from the First Half

by Snowball » 14 Jan 2012 17:42

We were much better than Watford overall but the pass for their goal was a peach.

Hunt is having a great game. Such a shame Church missed the coach,

To have Church playing instead of ALF is RID-IC-U-LOUS

I realise this means Church will probably score but he's so anonymous.

Two Noel Hunts and it would be 4-0 to us.

Tabb excellent, Karacan decent.

HRK, bad foul but some good crosses, and picked out Kebe perfectly

Not great from Cummings but otherwise very decent.

Great goal from Le Fondre. Superb win. The fact that we score late and come back from deficits is very encouraging.

Karacan is a bloody star, the cog of the team. He's going to go for 5-7 million someday. He pisses off the other team no end. Brilliant.

Agreed. If he finds a way to get 6-8 goals a season he'll be a top-top player.

Thought Tabb was excellent too

Hunt was great and that was a deffo penalty.

A goal that he got partly due to the fact that Church had run the legs off their centre backs for 80 minutes.

Back From The Game Watford Away

by Big Ern » 14 Jan 2012 19:02

Well....from watching it on the telly anyway.

Feds 7 - Solid game
Cummings 5 - Looked vulnerable at times. Maybe Griffin would have been more suited to the opposition.
Harte 7 - Looked better defensively than normal and a few decent balls into the box.
Gorkes 8 - Solid Game and always felt safe with him marshalling the defence
Pearce 8 - Solid performance. never looked in trouble
Kebe 6 - In and out of the game. Couple of nice runs but final ball continue to let him and the team down,
HRK 7 - Lucky to stay on the pitch, but his cross for the 1st goal was good and contributed well in the 2nd half
Tabb 7 - Offered nothing going forward, but broke up play and did his job
Karacan 7 - Steady without being spectacular.
Hunt - 8 Ran tirelessly. Unlucky not to be on the scoresheet.
Church 3 - Really poor game and never got into it. Should have been replaced 81 minutes earlier

Subs

Antonio 6 - Little time, but produced one excellent cross.
ALF 7 - Again very little time but typical poachers goal.Hope this gets his confidence back and he startes to hit goalscoring form again.

griffin shouldn't be anywhere near the first time as long as cummings is fit. cummings has been a revelation since coming back into the side. that shirt is deservedly his now.

karacan was easily our best player today. he is the heatbeat of the team, he's tireless and snappy. i would love to see us tie him down to a new long-term deal to ensure we get maximum value when the vultures come calling.

Back from the Pub:

Reading - looked the side with more quality, but lacking in coherancy, presumably a product of the knock to confidence and form from the previous two games.
Watford - looked the lesser side, but played with a bit more freedom. Made too many mistakes and lacked goal threat.

It looked more like Watford were the away team, come to frustrate Reading and try and sneak something on the break for large slices of the match. I think that's a factor in our lack of quality attacking threat.

The Ref: generally poor in his little decisions, gave us the benefit of these a lot, especially first half. Technically he probably got a lot of the big decisions wrong, but actually, I thought he showed good decision making and all the decisions when the right way in terms of what was the right decision, if not necessarily the correct one by the letter of the law.

Hunt penalty 1: Bit of a shove, but Hunt made it impossible to give by calling for it whilst flying unnecessarily through the air. Correct.
HRK foul: Nasty, especially on replay, but it was not malicious - poorly timed, and was unlikely to cause a bad injury. He was at least trying for the ball. Could easily have been a red, but yellow the right call. Correct.
Watford Penalty: Blatant shove by Pearce, but very ineffective and tame as shoves goes. Good call to waive play on. Correct.
Forsyth foul 1: Was never particularly out of control or going in very hard, was studs up so could have been a red, but yellow a fair decision. Correct.
Forsyth foul 2: Late, not dangerous, so soon after his yellow red would have been harsh. Could have gone though. Correct.
Hunt penalty 2: Hunt was looking for it before contact was made. Technically a penalty as there was contact, but it would have been very soft. Given his earlier attempt and the fact he was looking for it before he was fouled he made it very hard for the ref to give. Correct.

Generally poor football on display but we kept at it and won the game. We really need to perform better to stay in the play offs though.

Federici - 6. Did nothing wrong, but didn't have a lot to do. His freekick save was ludicrous, absolutely no need to dive. Risked being caught out with his attempt at a quick kick again. Palmed a shot straight into the middle of the box. Lucky.
Cummings - 6 (-1 for OG) was pretty good but scored an own goal. Had to try and do something, but putting himself at the near post probably would have been enough and certainly shouldn't have got an OG.
Harte - 7 his pace and positioning let us down in part for their goal. He should have been tighter to his man. Otherwise Did ok
Gorkss - 7 fairly solid but was at fault for the goal playing them onside, by running across the line from deep putting Harte and Pearce in trouble
Pearce - 7 could have given away a penalty. too slow for their goal. Ok otherwise.
Karacan - 7 worked hard
Tabb - 8 put in a lot of good dirty work and often looked to control the ball and play the short pass, which we needed. Please don't shoot unless you have to.
HRK - 8 (+1 for an assist) A bit lucky to finish the game, but played some decent stuff and a peach of a cross for the equiliser.
Kebe - 8 (+1 for the goal) Back to old Kebe. Looked dangerous frequently. Lost the ball frequently.
Hunt - 7 linked up play well. Tried to look for fouls too cynically as usual. Played well as the second striker.
Church - 7. Got very little service and ran and ran. He was mostly isolated as the main striker and whenever a cross came in for him it always hung just over his head. So whilst he wasn't in the match that much, I don't think it was his fault.

ALF - 7 didn't do a lot except score. Which is exactly what he needed to do. In fairness he didn't have much time.
Antonio - 7 One good cross and a lot of strong hold up play in the corner. Still don't think he's actually much good.

Very pleased with the result.

Not sure anyone really deserves a MOTM but I'm giving it to Tabb to be contrary.

I'd say Tabb and Hunt were our best two players but both started to tire are about 60-70mins so for overall performance I'd agree with Karacan MOTM.

He did ok, not sure he did 'great'.

All in all though a good team performance and ALF showed he's a natural goal poacher.

Feds 7 - Did what he had to do well as always.
Cummings 6 - Shaky at times will know he should've done better for the OG
Harte 6 - Couple of good free kicks wasn't troubled defensively.
Gorkss 7 - Heading wasn't quite up to standard but improved.
Pearce 7 - He's become a rock at the back.

Kebe 7 - Makes the wrong choices most of the time. Smart play should have lead to Forsyth being sent off.
Kanu 7 - Great cross shouldn't have been on the pitch to make it though.
Tabb 7 - Solid. Did his job quietly without fuss couple of good passes.
Karacan 8 - Did well again. Underrated.

Hunt 8 - Should've had two penalties.
Church 6 - Worked really hard yet again without much luck.

Alf 7 - Scored. Shouldn't have been booked. He needs to improve on the weaknesses in the rest of his game if he starts against Hull.
Antonio 7 - Produced a cross that hints at him actually being a real footballer.
