Back from the game - Pompey

by CayeneMatt » 06 Mar 2012 21:36

Good 1st half, dire 2nd half.

Pompey dragged us down to their level after the break. Good performances alround, though maybe only Cummings looking a little shakey at times.

Highlights of the match:
1. 1-0 to the tax payers :)
2. Church doing up Feds' laces
3. Robson Kanu getting pole-axed .... every 5 minutes during the 1st half.

Onwards and upwards.... and still no correction.

Nondescript game (again).

But couldn't help but think we were playing well within ourselves - maybe bearing in mind the difficult schedule we have coming up.

"A win is a win". We did all we needed to without over exerting. Not pretty, but sufficient. We never really needed to get out of second gear.

Leicester will be tougher, but I think we know that.

Not much of interest to say really, the 1st half we seemed bright, especially Roberts when he played towards the wings (he created Hunt's goal by pushing out to the right hand side of the box - Suarez style), but 2nd half was poor and if Pompey had a cutting edge they could well have grabbed something from that game.

But what an amazing run, when will it end??? Can't fault the players, they got the result once again, and the march up the table may continue through March .. :?

Agree - some of the players (Ledge, Jobi in particular) had a real can't be arsed attitude at times during the second half. But then we didn't look like conceding.

That's the away end. Nice try, though.

Got to admit, they were right on most counts....
1-0 and you still don't sing
Is this a library and
Is there a fire drill
But NO attempts on target and NO points, you can sing all the way to League 1.

I'm 99% sure 'Is there a fire drill?' is actually a Reading chant from many seasons ago. Thieves.

Also Sal Bibbo looks tidy in that pic x

Roberts was good but he has one problem that really annoys me. He NEVER challenges for a header, just waits and hopes (pointlessly) that the defender will miss it and it will fall to him. He's a superb signing but theis really gets on my nerves. Anyway, alright game, hunt or pearce MOM.

Pretty awful game but Pompey just didn't get anywhere near Reading's goal.

Reading did their usual stint of passive domination, tight at the back with no real flair going forward apart from a good run down the right by Roberts, a decent cross and a regulation header.

One game nearer the end of the season, three more points, job done.

Bored.

Once we got a (good) goal that was it. Training match. Pipe and slippers.

Pompey are screwed, their players just weren't up for the fight and we didn't need to bother.

The atmosphere was shit, but then it often is when the football is so dire.

percy_freeman Is there a fire drill.

They said that when both sets of fans were leaving just before half time to get the beers in. Idiots.

In past seasons games against the crap teams are the ones we screw up but this hasn't been the case as much this season.

I have FINALLY seen us beat Pompey! That's 2 bogey teams we've put to bed this season now.

Remember 08/09? The season where Coppell's team finished 4th in a 3-horse race? One of the teams which overtook us on the final furlong was Birmingham and we all bemoaned the fact they seemed to grind out one-nilers. Seems we are the 'Birmingham 08/09' of this season's Championship.

Even a pessimistic b@stard like me never expected Portsmouth to score tonight if they'd played til midnight. They didn't really give it a go in all honesty, but Reading were as comfortable as ever at the back, Roberts led the line well and with ALF missing a couple of presentable chances it should have been 2 or 3-0. Federici meanwhile never got his gloves dirty.

You'd have to expect there to be tougher challenges somewhere along the line. If not, LOL @ the Championship.
