Royals legends

by rollsy » 24 Mar 2012 17:06

We all know the names, Friday, Death ect when the royals legends conversations start in the pub but is there anyone in the current squad who fit the bill?

One stand out in my opinion is Noel Hunt. Always plays with passion, and gives 100%. ok so some days he's not at his best but his work rate and commitment to the match and the team are never in doubt. Think back to last season, we are 3 nil down to a good Norwich side, and remember who it was who rallied the team and got us back to 3 all. Play off final, again it was hunt who rallied the team. Today, we go 3-1 up against Blackpool, but rather than relax, he goes round the team reminding them there is still time on the clock and they must remain focused.

That is why, to me, Hunt is a current royals legend.

Agreed - to me he will go down as one, however some people clearly doubt his ability (as do I at times) and I don't think he will be widely considered as such a legend.

Towards the end of the Boro game he was encouraging the crowd to get behind them. Gotta love Noel :D

Think Pearce is the prime candidate from the current squad, been here since he was 12 or so, always wears heart on his sleeve, much maligned at early point in his RFC career but now one of the first names on the teamsheet and chips in with vital goals [/cliche mode]

The word legend is greatly over-used. IMO it should be a very exclusive club. Noel Hunt is a good player who punches above his weight. More important though, his enthusiasm and rallying qualities are of great value to the team at this critical stage in our season.

This! Pearce all the way.He will be one of readings best ever centre backs and next season when he graces the premiership with us he will get an england call up

any legends in the current squad? no, absolutely not.

people get labelled a legend far too easily these days. that right needs to be earned.

it's a terrific squad, some cracking players in there on their day, but none have earnt that right as yet.

Probably for the fact that he's a 'ledgend' is precisely the reason why many folk HATE the use of the over-used word!

(Kebe is not a legend.)

Swear I read somewhere fairly recently that he's looking for a call to the Republic squad for the euros? In fact I think he's eligible for them, Scotland and England! But my gut instinct is that I read that in a Fordham article so maybe better to ignore!

Anyway in terms of legends from the current squad...none...yet. As said I think Pearce stands a good chance. Someone like him coming through our own academy has got to be in the reckoning...

Legend? For me it has to be the player that is wanted by a 'bigger' club and turns them down to stay with us. A bit disappointed by the way that some of the 106ers heads were turned and then didn't really do anything with club they joined - Sidwell for example.

Nobody in the squad has earned it yet, a few possibilities though esp NHunt Pearce, Feds and Kebe. Hopefully it'll be the amazing performances they produce in the Prem that will get them there.

Brian McD is well on the way to becoming a legend.

SJM will be thought of as one maybe when you look back a few years from now.

Agreed FL. An honour too easily earned is not worth much.

hmm bit hard to think of 'legends' for reading but i guess since the bar is set lower than most premier league level clubs i probably can get away with throwing a few of these names out of the hat :

byranjanrar gunnarson
glen little
ivar ingimarsson
murty
hahnaman
no 13 reading fans everywhere
