Will be available in large portions at the stadium outlets on Saturday for all those who were negative about this season.

With no investment there would have been no progress - that's what people were saying and I think its been proved true.

Agree with the last few posts. Well done to the STG's for being right.

M, your posts usually make good sense. This one not. The crucial factor was B McD.

Ok,

Brian McD + Russian investment = promotion.

We were all right, let's let it go now.

Ah, the old self defensive "I know I was talking crap but I'll defend it now by re-adjusting my memory of what I said" routine.

Humble Pie with a dose of brown sauce I think.

McD may have been gone without the investment - who knows?

kebe may have gone

No Roberts

Who would have played in midfield last few games - Mullins was a shrewd signing.

Well obviously I agree Brian was key to the whole thing but he wouldn't have been able to do it if he hadn't been given funds to sign Roberts, Mullins etc

And that still stands true.

Doubt you will find anyone employed by Reading Football Club (or part owning it) who would deny that Anton's investment proved the crucial last part of the recipe for getting us to where we now are.

McDermott may not have gone. No one else wanted the Wolves job afterall.
Kebe probably wouldn't have gone anywhere until the summer. Ditto Fed and we had McCarthy and Andersen anyway.
ALF has scored some pretty crucial goals as well. Maybe he'd have done more if started with Hunt.

Would we have finished top two? No almost certainly not. Could we have won the Play Offs? Definitely.

We certainly weren't going backwards fast or in danger of relegation. Which is what all the STGs were complaining about. Those who supported the way the club is run and trusted Madejski, Hammond and McDermott, well, shown to be right.

Seriously, just let it go Ian.

Arguing that you have been proved right because we might have been promoted via the playoffs without investment is ridiculous. We might have been relegated, we'll never know.

All we can go on is what has actually happend. We invested in the team and have been promoted as a result.

Yes the Reading way has been part of our success, but so has the money that has been spent.

Actually I'm arguing that others were wrong because we weren't going backwards. And that Madejski wasn't sending us down the pan.

None of the Doom saying of the last 4 or so years came true. There was no sea change. Just a little extra investment and the same way of doing things, with most of the same players.

We'll never know where the road we were on would have ended. We are on a new road now that none of us envisaged.

TBF, before the announcement of the Russian investment, our previous 11 league matches had yielded 24 pts out of a maximum 33.

Sorry to go all Snowball on you but at 2.18 points per game, that would have resulted in a seasonal points haul of 100.36

So yes, there can be no question that the Russian investment allowed us to really kick on, but we weren't exactly relegation fodder before they came along.
