Benik Afobe

by TBM » 20 Apr 2012 11:15

The man was acting like we had just won the Champions League, on Tuesday - it was cracking to see....he was hopping around the place just before the whistle and when it blew he loved it.

Then on his twitter he writes things like:

Yessssssss!!! Best feeling ever in football. We Are Going Up!!!! I can't believe it. Amazinnnnngggggggggg! @ReadingFC. Party in Reading!!!!!

Best feeling yet in my young professional career so far. Let's go on and be Champions now! This is why we all play football, to win medals!

And trophies! Want to thank you all for the lovely messages! It's been a great 3 weeks for me working with such an amazing squad! @ReadingFC

Best thing about last night was the smile on every single persons face in that stadium! And seeing @JemKaracan4 hours after his op!

We should get him back next season, on loan, he is certainly loving life here

Its amazing he has got so on board with our ethos so quickly.

In all honesty I haven't seen what all the fuss is about yet.

Its a short space of time to see how good he is and having been injured for such a long time its harsh on him to expect him to be "in the game"

What was impressive as well was that he was ready to come on for about 5 minutes but was kept waiting and waiting. Then we scored and McD told him to sit back down again. I'm sure there are plenty of players that could/would have thrown a strop but he just accepted and joined in with everyone at the final whistle.

I know all players claim they've a great team spirit and everyone is pulling together but it's so obviously true with this lot.

We haven't seen much of him but he was a handy option if needed. Good on him for getting into the spirit of things.

There were rumours on twitter that we have an option to loan him next season for the season, but how true that is I don't know. We would still need a proven striker at that level imo. Church on loan to a Championship club; B.Williams, Baseya, Manset etc all off.

I would be surprised if anything had been formally agreed, I mean whose interest would that be? I'm sure theres a decent chance of seeing Benik back next season, but perhaps Arsenal would want him playing regularly and I think he could do with a full championship season to be honest. I've seen enough to know he'll be a good player, but might not be in the Premierleague next season. Lovely touch, good in the air and powerful, just needs to learn the decision making, gambling etc that only regular first team football gives you.

Legend for his celebrations though, he'll get applauded at the Mad Stad many times over his career I hope.

Maybe they should get him in touch with Paul Merson, then

Funny how you're all praising him for dominating celebrations at the front etc.

I thought it was all a bit David May - dude's been here three weeks and he's jumping around at the front of all the photos like he's scored 20 goals.

Poor old Tomasz Cywka looked like he had no mates at all.

Will he get a medal though? I thought you needed to play a minimum of ten games?
Let him hold the cup on Saturday for a bit though. That should make up for it.

That's what I thought, he looked well uncomfortable at times.

But he is probably thinking his career with us is over, whereas Benik has a big future

As far as I understand we have an option to extend for the full season next year on the condition that we were promoted. Wenger wants him playing at the top level as soon as possible.

It would be great to sign him, or someone like him to learn from Roberts. Loaning gets you out of a hole, but ultimately you're improving someone elses player, a bit like renting instead of buying i suppose!

I think he'll be a great player. But I'm not keen on us having any reliance on a loan player in our first season. Feels like a waste.
