Harte new contract

by Friday's Legacy » 25 Apr 2012 19:30

Set to sign one year extension.

Rumours we're still keen on Wayne Bridge and/or another left back suggests Joseph Mills may either go out on loan or be on his way as well.

I think Mills will go on loan to someone like Charlton for the season. Did Sunderland sign Bridge on loan?

I'm quite pleased he is getting another deal, we have a decent blend of youth and experience and keeping him will only enhance that. Harte plus one more left back in and Mills out on loan and I unlike an average prem right winger* will be happy.

Yes. He's a free in the summer. Man City agreed to cover most of his wages when we agreed to loan him in January but Sunderland came in for him at the last minute and got him.

I'm not sure if we could meet his wage demands, I guess we'll see when we approach him (sounds like we will at least try). I read somewhere he was on 80k a week at City. It would have to be 3/4's drop to come here I imagine. He isn't worth more than that at this stage in his career.

Player and manager spoke about Harte's future before Brian flew off on a scouting trip this week. McDermott wants him here for another season.

Great decision. Harte will be a very good back up Left back. His experience around the squad will also be invaluable. Mills out on loan + a new LB to be first choice.

We will be outplayed in the PL by teams with better players and thus a strong defence is mandatory.

But Ian Harte offers another dimension that will enable us to compete in that he makes set plays so very interesting and the pace of his delivery means that anyone connecting in the target area is more or less guaranrteed a goal opportunity.

So we should not be looking to replace Ian Harte but should be looking to have someone who can protect him from pace - Jobi has been that player of late and its worked very well - who would have expected Ian Harte overlaps but we saw this several times.

Maybe Ian Harte has to move to the back of midfield if it is deemed that a power left back is needed -
may we should be playing 3 at the back then harte then the 4 then the 2 forwards - 3-1-4-2

but if he stays it must be to play and not be here just for his experience.

In the prem we're going to be more reliant on set pieces than ever. Ian Harte's our man. I wouldn't want anyone else dropping bombs from a corner. Ian Harte = Dead ball legend.

I heart ian harte but he's not going to be good enough defensively in the prem i fear. However, if he's not around we lose his delivery but that's not a problem really as Gylfi will be on free kicks and corners next year

A big NO to Harte being an understudy.

Pace or no pace, nobody comes close to his skill with the ball, and I've lost count of how many games we won last season because of him.

People get too hysterical about pace.

tbf Harte came out and said he never had pace, and he doesn't see it as integral to his game. Fair enough

he does have a fantastic left foot, and how many times have you seen him get caught out positionally. Definately excellent to have around experience and ability waise

Yay, it's like that episode of He-Man where He-Man and Skeletor have to work together to beat some sort of plant monster or something.

Remeber Teila? Man, I bet Evil Lynn was a right goer; she definitely took it 'the wrong way' - PREFERED it that way I bet, and would hike aside that cape and would squat over you and... er, Harte signed a new contract.
