The Summer ins, outs and new contracts 2012

by No Hoops » 02 May 2012 08:37

Well that was exciting! Who would have thought it Champions.

Unfortunately there will be some sad occasions over the Summer where players will go, however there will also be some great moments when the club announces the new signings.

Below is the list of all the movements so far

Andy Griffin...Released

Updates from OS

in addition, we are looking to extend these contracts/ sign from scholarship

Discussions underway: Nick Arnold, Brynjar Gunnarsson, Ian Harte, Jonathan Henly, Michael Hector, Charlie Losasso, Matt Partridge, Dean Santangelo, Gozie Ugwu, Josh Webb.

Goalkeepers Henly and Santangelo, as well as defender Partridge and midfielder Webb, are all moving up from scholarship agreements to become professionals for the first time. Striker Dominic Samuel also signed pro forms earlier in the season, and they all helped our under 18s to finish second in their League.

Despite the good service they have given to the club over varying periods I don't see the point in offering new contracts to Bryn and Harte.
A sentimental decision by the club (unlike Salako?)similar to the situation with Ivar when we all knew he was past it.

If they are releasing a load of people now, does that mean that certain deals are pretty much tied up already?

Cywka for example, hes not bad and you would of thought unless you were sure you could do better you would keep him atleast until something is confirmed

They are discussing his role and the options open to him, so would suggest as a coach perhaps

Bryn seems to be more likely somewhere on the fringe / coaching, but would be a good option to add to the 25 men in January if needed as backup.

I anticipate Harte will be our first choice LB to start next season....

We've lived off his set pieces, without them we'd almost certainly be in the playoffs, and as someone pointed out on another thread, how many times has he been properly skinned by a winger over the last part of this season? I can't think of many, if any....and let's face it, the Championship has it's fair share of wingers who are just as quick as almost anyone he'll face in the Prem...

Gorkks and Harte seem to be really well organised, with Gorkks often drifting outside, with Harte dropping into the middle when it looks like he's about to be done by pace, and, largely, it's worked... I'd expect those two to make up the left side of our defensive line for the first game next season...

Interesting that Connolly's gone back to QPR rather than to Spain with the rest of the squad, perhaps suggests that a permanent deal isn't quite as inevitable as some on here would have us believe.
